25 February 2009

If you suffer from SAD, come stand in my bathroom for a while. I had to buy some new CFL light bulbs for the fixture over the sink, [More:] the only light in the room. The ones I got say they're "daylight" colored. I flicked them on and HOLY MOTHER OF-!

Staggering out of the room with tears on my face (and, no doubt, scar tissue on my retinas), I blinked until I could see again and then looked back down the hall. The ENTIRE HALLWAY is lit with bright, white light.

These are supposedly the same wattage as the ones I replaced, but a different brand. Apparently I haven't mastered figuring out what "color temperature" fluorescent bulbs will be before I buy them.
... and the good news is that for as often as you guys actually use that light on a daily basis, your new bulb won't blow out for about 7 years.

Btw, were the cats outside of harm's reach? You may want to consider dosimetry.

What brand/temperature are they? I've got a CFL on the back porch that isn't nearly as bright as I'd like.

box, they're called "Bright Effects" (got them at Lowe's), 60 watts, and they're 6500 degrees K, which is way over to the blue-white end of the spectrum. I just had no idea that'd make them so much brighter to the eyes.

Ardiril, I think there was a cat behind me when I flicked the lights on, but there's nothing left now but a small spot of soot on the floor.
