Free range organic wifi [More:]I leaned over against the window to take a photo of the beautiful city-slash-mountains and Lo! Faint wifi signal! I have no idea where it's coming from to reach me on the 19th floor, but I'm grateful.

What little things are making you happy?
1. I wrote a song that got played on the radio this morning. It's entitled the Pog the Dog Song, and it was played live by a friend of mine at WSCA where he and I are DJ's.

2. I have just enough cracked pepper turkey, Swiss cheese, whole wheat bread and baby arugula to make lunch with.

3. I discovered a boatload of great new jazz today: Ben Allison and Tord Gustavsen to be precise.

Egg and chips for dinner, with white bread and butter from Jersey cows.

I finally found the little red chicken's secret stash of eggs yesterday. Since I erected a barrier to keep her from traipsing into the neighbors' laundry room, I hadn't seen a single egg. Crafty little thing was hiding them inside a tomato cage. Found 14 eggs yesterday, most of them worse for wear after weathering the last week's torrential rains.

But hey, now I know her secret, and it's more eggs for the humans of the household.

Oh! And last night I started a sourdough starter and some pepper seeds, so I've got little things growing, and that's always happy.

My older foster daughter moved out and left me a huge box of frozen (Chinese) onion cakes in the freezer -- yum! I fried one up this morning, along with two fried eggs (don't judge me, man!), and one of the eggs had two yolks! Lucky & yummy!

AND I decided that rather than have a nervous breakdown and go out on disability (only partly kidding), I would take one vacation day a week until I feel better (I have about 8 weeks saved up -- I've hit our "cap" so if I don't use them it's sort of a waste). Today was my first time, and it rawks! I slept in, played on the computer, took the dog for a walk, drank coffee, and ate fried eggs. Life is good.

Had an appointment with an advisor today to go over transcripts, and am now sorted out, passed out of prerequisites, and registered for my four summer classes. No doubt I'll regret it soon enough (biology, microbiology, organic chemistry, anatomy), but right now I'm extremely happy at the prospect of being able to exercise my brain like this and making a large step towards where I want to go next.

Also speaking of eggs, fried in particular, until this week I had never tried them, never known their tastiness due to my fear of the weird-looking yolk. I have since tried making them over easy, over hard, and basted (the bacon fat way). I am now enlightened. Except for my arteries.

I'm pleased to see that my new job's filtering system doesn't block MeCha or MeFi. Gmail is forbidden so I'm going to have to start using an old handheld that we have to use the Wifi from coffee shop in the bookstore downstairs to be able to check my mail at work. I'd just buy an iPhone but I'm locked into a Verizon contract for another year, maybe I'll buy and LG EnV. I'm very conscious of how lucky I am to just be employed so I'm not going to bitch about the 101 security rules that I have to deal with now.

Credit card debt which has been lingering and shitting me off for four years (technically, including buying my car): all paid off now. (actually, not that small a thing for me)

On the egg front:

It's Saturday morning, and I notice my beloved bought bacon! Bacon and egg sarnies are being cooked as I type, which will be made with a friend's chook's eggs we scored for feeding their cat while they were on hols.

I had a dental cleaning and the hygienist told me I have "great brushing technique" and "very minimal bleeding." I should have gotten a sticker.
