I got to visit with Exene Cervenka yesterday! She needed to borrow a cello from me. She's in town here recording an album with this guy I'm in a band with. He is a magnet for working with artists with strong critic cred, as he has produced albums for the likes of Jonathon Richman and WILCO. [More:]

So he calls me and asks if I could hook them up with a cello as her cello player didn't want to fly from L.A. with hers.

Man, did I get flustered.
Wow, I'd be pretty flustered too. I bought the most recent "Knitters" CD, great stuff.

Did she screech at you?

I keed, I keed. Though she *is* pretty screechy.

You must have a nice cello. Is it an electric one? I am curious (plus I have a Stennheiser cello pickup for sale).

"Sweet Sourwookie!" is now my new catchphrase, replacing "Holy Hannah!"

Further information on this story as it develops.

I am also happy with the phrase "Sweet Sourwookie!"

Also, I am generally afraid of meeting people that I think are cool. Because, sometimes it turns out, they're not. So, I'm glad to hear a story of it going well!

No pickup. Studio work so it was mic'ed. She's recording a new album here. They'll be using some of keyboards next.
