Nixon on "Arch" Bunker, "queers" , "homos" and the Greeks and Romans [More:]I have never heard these tapes. You probably have. I thought I'd post them for those that live in a cave like me.

To say Nixon was our of touch is an understatement. Crazy.

I had heard some of this, but not all. Yikes.

BTW, I saw Frost/Nixon a couple of weeks ago, and in it, Nixon comes across as very smart, but also really creepy. I think if anything, tapes like this remind us he was even creepier than the film was able to communicate.

Yeah it's crazy, but was he so out of touch for a middle-aged white guy 30 years ago? Probably not. It's probably just crazy to hear the US President talk so frankly about homosexuality. His ideas about the constitutional limits of executive power however, were way more out of touch compared to mainstream America.

I also saw Frost/Nixon a couple weeks ago. I thought the acting and story was great. I was hooked from the start.

Yes, I agree chillmost. You have it spot on. Unfortunately, his thinking was not so unusual, but like you said it's odd to hear the President speak this way.

This sounds about normal for a man his age at that time. I can remember a lot of similar talk about All In The Family and Maude. It's kind of hard to imagine a TV show having that sort of impact anymore.

I'd like to go on record (again) to express my genuine repulsion of that man. Who would of thought there could of been someone worse down the road. Ugh.

*Goes back to reading the Great Shark Hunt*

You say that like it's a bad thing. ;)

The Thirty-Seventh President of the United States of America was not a classy guy.

Take, for example, his reaction to the Biafran war, and the suffering it caused: "GET THESE STARVING N***ER BABIES OFF MY TV SET!"

Richard Nixon on Wikiquote (not 100% work or family safe)

I'm just grateful the crazy bastard didn't start a nuclear holocaust.

I don't know if I'm more embarrassed for my city or for Snoop Dogg. || Me, too
