AskMetachat: "Blog" software that doesn't require a MySQL server? [More:]MuddDude has expressed a desire to set up a silly blog on a domain that we own. Basically, he wants the ability to open a program, type some stuff, and publish it to our website like a blog. He also doesn't want to pay much more than we're already paying for hosting. We have some basically-free hosting, and we're really unwilling to pay extra for MySQL (I know it's like, $3.00 a year, but roll with me here - we want this to be small and silly). Here are the options as I see them:

1) Set up an online blog somewhere and point the domain to it (I think I know how to do this, but MuddDude "doesn't want it to look unintegrated").
2) Use some software blogging package that doesn't utilize MySQL (this was MuddDude's suggestion - I honestly don't know if this sort of thing exists anymore?)
3) Code something up myself (method of last resort)

Any ideas? advice?
I should add that we're not freeloaders, and we'd be willing to donate to the continuing development of an open-source solution should one exist.

I think you'd be better off using a hosted blog like Blogger or Wordpress and pointing the domain to it.

You should be able to use blogger for this. No mysql required. You just need to set up the advanced options in blogger to point to your domain/ftp.

I love love love blosxom. Very easy to use, lightweight, adaptable.

You know, I use NFS, and they already support WordPress without any extra charge, as far as I know.

Unfortunately, the one guy who used to host instructions on getting this to work has apparently pulled only that entry from his blog.

Mudd, as it turns out, I did save those instructions to a text document at the time I set mine up. I've just e-mailed them to you. Good luck!
