How about another of gaspode's song lyrics games? I'll give it a shot. Let's have some fun?[More:]Hopefully these aren't too easy, or too hard!

#1 - Who's gonna play drums guitar or organ with chorus

#2 - I haven't known peace and quiet for so long I can't remember what it's like.

#3 - And the ladies in the cloakroom take no notice of me

#4 - He has his future in a british steel

#5 - I went to lolla with my mom

#6 - And I'm so lucky 'cause I found a boy like you

#7 - My name is Geraldine, I'm your social worker

#8 - I'm the all night drug-prowling wolf

#9 - I don't care what nobody says, We're gonna have a baby

#10 - I'll write you a letter tomorrow, tonight I can't hold a pen
#4 is Making Plans for Nigel, XTC.
is #8 Werewolves of London?

You got #4 , yup.

Not number 8 though!

#6 is Blondie - Denis
posted by gaspode 06 February | 12:00
hrm As far as I can tell there are no Stones songs represented. wtf, richat? ;)
posted by gaspode 06 February | 12:01
OMG...it's true! What was I thinking? And, you are correct about #6. I'm starting to fear I've used too obscure lyrics?
posted by richat 06 February | 12:57
#2 Idiot Wind, Bob Dylan. excellent song!
posted by Meatbomb 06 February | 13:25
But sadly, richat, that is as far as my knowledge will take me with this batch. Tough ones!
posted by Meatbomb 06 February | 13:27
Yup! One of my favourites, littered with wonderful lines!
posted by richat 06 February | 13:27
They are tough... #10 feels familiar, but I can't place it.
posted by gaspode 06 February | 13:33
#10 is the only one that feels familiar to me too. Wild Guess = Some Tom Waits Song?
posted by rainbaby 06 February | 13:35
#8 is The Clash - White Man in Hammersmith Palais.
The rest I have no idea...
posted by rocket88 06 February | 13:37
Yup, #8 is right. Should I try to post some hint-type things?
posted by richat 06 February | 13:39
Hints, yes! Maybe pad out the lyrics slightly?
posted by Meatbomb 06 February | 13:47
There's an idea! Ok...I'll start with some decades, and an extra line or two?

#1 - From the 2000's...
The kid has a homecoming the champion the horse
Who's going to play drums, guitar or organ with chorus
As far as we've walked from both of ends of the sand
Never have we caught a glimpse of this man

#3 - a Brit from the 80's
And the ladies in the cloakroom
Take no notice of me
I wish myself was back at home
But there’s nothing safe in watching tv

#5 - some 90's power pop punk
I went to lolla with my mom and my mom met everyone
and I talked to Henry Rollins...

#7 - Some Scots from 2008 (this might be too new to hit the collective unconscious?)
I will, I will turn your tide
Do all that I can to heal you inside
I'll be the angel on your shoulder
My name is Geraldine, I'm your social worker

#9 - From 2007 - some formerly scruffy southern types
I don't care what nobody says, we're gonna have a baby
Taking off in a coupe De ville, she buckled up on navy

#10 - from the 80s...a shambolic pile of losers making wonderful rock and roll
I'll write you a letter tomorrow, tonight I can't hold a pen
-->another great couplet from the same song: Jesus rides beside me, He never buys any smokes
posted by richat 06 February | 14:09
Oh, #10 is The Replacements! Can't hardly wait
posted by gaspode 06 February | 14:23
There ya go. There was a cool release recently that had some old stuff that Tom Waits recorded WITH the Replacements. It was pretty interesting!
posted by richat 06 February | 14:24
BAH, I clearly suck at this.

#1 - Cat Power - Lived in Bars
#3 - Billy Bragg - Lovers Town Revisited
#5 - Chixdiggit - Henry Rollins is no Fun
#7 - Glasvegas - Geraldine
#9 - Kings of Leon - Knocked Up.
posted by richat 06 February | 14:59
#1 and #4 are two songs I love, but for some reason I just blank out when I read a lyric and try to figure out where I know it from. Which is the whole challenge, I guess.
posted by BoringPostcards 06 February | 15:14
Yeah, I'm not great at the game, but for some reason, I do love playing it!

(P.S. that time change, bridge thing in Lived In Bars murders me every time I hear it)
posted by richat 06 February | 15:43
Hrm. They were tough, richat!
posted by gaspode 06 February | 15:49
Obviously we have problems with odd numbers.
posted by gaspode 06 February | 15:50
No, I suck. Keep in mind your audience demographic... I know none of those missing bands except BB, and don't know that song.

Include some Rolling Stones next time, for the old folks. :)
posted by Meatbomb 06 February | 15:52
Too many new ones maybe? I'll try again another day, I SWEAR.

...and me
posted by gaspode 06 February | 16:48
Ha! I saw Chixdiggit open (unnanounced) for the Muffs in Danbury in 1995. They played that song and it blew me away. It was dead on target about so many things.

I'll write you a letter tomorrow, tonight I can't hold a pen

an even better one: the rich are getting richer/the poor are getting drunk
