Will "Fringe" satisfy my "X-Files" jones? I have not watched a single episode, and I'm thinking of going back and watching them. Worth it?
I've only watched one ep and it reminded me a lot of an average (as opposed to outstanding) Monster Of The Week X-Files episode without the wry humor. That was just one ep so it's quite likely I got them on a subpar week.

No. It's incredibly stupid.

It has gotten better the longer the season has gone on. I enjoy Joshua Jackson and John Noble and their roles but Anna Torv doesn't do much for me. If you watch the episodes on hulu or wherever - you'll see that it's gotten better over the past few episodes. (Haven't seen tonight's episode yet.) However, there is a bit of STUPID in each episode. It's not as good as the early seasons of XF. It's different from XF though. If that makes any sense.

John Noble and his character are both great but otherwise it is a weak XF's monster episode. Still, it beats Eleventh Hour which is like the XF's rewritten for the Matlock crowd.

Totally not worth the effort. Fringe is Very Disappointing. (I watched the first 3 episodes)

The Infringement Files is an amusing project that compares & similarites in the plots of Fringe & The X-Files.

I watched the first three or four episodes and sort of gently lost interest. It's not bad, precisely, but it's not great either. If you liked X-Files for they "hey let's do paranormal potpourri" aspect, I'd say it's worth giving it a shot just to see.

If you liked X-Files mostly for the scrappy quirkiness, stay away. This thing has been polished to a production-value sheen and lacks, as jamaro says, the wry humor that really worked for Carter & Co.

See also.

How disappointing is that, right? I expected Rufus Sewell would be doing more after "Dark City," and I was excited to see he was going to be in a new sciencey mystery show and so very very sad to see how terrible it is.

That's what I was shooting for, yeah.

Eleventh Hour is just Evil Corporation of the Week. Nobody invents anything except Evil Things. All business is bad and Must Be Stopped because they seek profits. There, now you don't have to watch. I know it must be tough writing about weird science but a dash of creativity on occasion would be nice.

John Noble is the best thing about Fringe, no question.

I missed most of the X-Files since I lived without a TV from 1996 to 2004. So, lately I've been checking the videos out of the library and watching them. Ahhhh, is it a pleasure to spend one night a week thus. I'm not looking forward to the time when I've gone through the whole series.
