Didn't some columnist say in '03 that they'd be erecting statues in Bush's honor in Bagdad squares after the war?

octothorpe- that's what I thought of too. Instead of tearing down the Saddam statue and building one of Bush or of the Statue of Liberty, they built one of a shoe that they threw at Bush. Kind of a nice commentary on the progress of the "liberation."

The laughing thumbs-up woman in the picture actually makes me wonder about how authentic the photo is. In a lot of eastern places the thumbs-up thing is a huge insult and/or a seriously pornographic suggestion. I think it's really, really, really unlikely that an Iraqi woman would be using that particular gesture.

Looks fake to me too (the lighting is weird, and it looks like the tree has been photoshopped in), but there are a lot of other pictures of it. Google News.
