Hi! Hey, if you're just checking the place out 'cause MeFi is down, welcome. Get you a drink? And regulars, what's your poison?
It's Saturday afternoon, so naturally, mimosas!
posted by ThePinkSuperhero 24 January | 12:07
Coffee, since it's not even 10am yet....although it is after noon elsewhere. Hmmm.

BTW, plenty of room in #bunnies so drop on by

My poison is the still-warm blood of script kiddies. Or scotch.
posted by cortex 24 January | 12:17
Still on my coffee. But I have these awesome dark chocolate and macadamia nut biscuits to share...
posted by typewriter 24 January | 12:20
I'll have a DDOS and Coke, thanks.

tea... though I'm pondering switching to something stronger to soothe the pain of askme human relations and pets & animals withdrawal. HOW MANY KITTIES HAVE TO DIE BEFORE THE TERRORISTS WILL BE SATISFIED?!!!!

When faced with this dilemma, I usually find that coffee with a judicious addition of your favorite sugary liquer maintains both decorum and a pleasant mild buzz.
posted by Miko 24 January | 12:28
It's barely 930. I am still under the covers. So coffee first. Then maybe Mimosa. A beer with lunch and scotch at 4!
posted by special-k 24 January | 12:29
It's early, so I'll take a cup of coffee and a bloody mary.
posted by pieisexactlythree 24 January | 12:31
I'm not drinking yet but I am serving breastmilk ... go to sleep baby so I can waste my day off on the computer.
posted by saucysault 24 January | 12:31
Caffeine free diet coke. It's an abomination but I am an addict.
posted by AcornCup 24 January | 12:38

I'll stick with coffee, thanks.
posted by terrapin 24 January | 12:41
I am eyeing our liquor cabinet....Kahlua? Frangelico? Wish I had some brandy. (Well, I do, but it's the Really Really Good & Expensive Stuff, and I ain't putting it in coffee.)

Captain Morgan's Parrot Bay Pineapple Rum and 7-Up.

Welcome!!! I'll have either a diet coke, or a fauxmosa with club soda, thanks.

Ooooh, coffee. I miss coffee. I want coffee. It's no good to give up coffee when one's boyfriend continues to drink really good coffee that smells soooooo gooood. Coffee coffee coffee. Sigh.

I need to find some more compelling tea, apparently.
posted by occhiblu 24 January | 12:46
I'll have a cup of my new jasmine pearl tea that just came from the importer yesterday, thx. I am mad editing here so the lack of MeFi is a good thing actually.

hi everyone! *waves* I was going to check the meetup thread and post pix from last night but I think I'll work on other stuff that needs to be edited first :P
posted by lonefrontranger 24 January | 12:48
I'll have an Advil. Headache.....ow ow ow...
posted by bunnyfire 24 January | 12:50
Did you give up because of the caffeine, occiblu? There are some great organic/gourmet decafs that got me through a no-caffeine phase. Not sure you can get them where you are, but you might be able to order them.

As for me, coffee sounds good, but a bloody mary sounds fantastic. Please make it very, very spicy.
posted by treepour 24 January | 12:51
bloody mary please, extra spicy. hair of the dog, wot! wot!
posted by eatdonuts 24 January | 12:52
Hot chocolate with some powder still on the bottom in a thick mug that is only half-full so there can be tons of whipped cream on top.
posted by rmless2 24 January | 12:56

Later on today, I am meeting my friend for hot chocolate here. They have a Mayan chocolate shot that is fantastic!

I felt a great disturbance in the tubes. As if a thousand users cried out in noes and where suddenly deleted.

Just thank gods this happened on a Saturday when the webs are quiet. If this was Thursday afternoon there would be blood on the walls.

Best drinking chocolate I've ever had (hot and cold) is from this place in Santa Fe. Unreal.
posted by rtha 24 January | 13:11
I could really go for a nice cup of tea, but I'm at work and I don't even know if we have any tea here.
posted by dipping_sauce 24 January | 13:12
Their truffles are knock-you-down-make-you-cry-they're-so-good, too.

Yeah, caffeine seems to give me major insecurity attacks... which is weird, I know, but caffeine seems to trigger some sort of self-doubt meltdown thingy. Stupid caffeine.

I've been playing with decaf coffee lately, but I think it's just making me crave coffee more than I had been. I used to have some of this green rooibos, which I loved, and I think I just need to order more of it. Cuz it's yummy.
posted by occhiblu 24 January | 13:12
Hot tea for me, especially as I had just a drop too much wine last night at a cocktail party. (On the upside: I now have plans to take a small crew of German avant-garde artists to Jumbo's Clown Room while they're in L.A.! I expect that evening to be truly AWESOME.)
posted by scody 24 January | 13:13
Caffeine free diet coke *boggle*.

I'm having tea and possibly the blood of bangalorian network engineers.

Revenge. On the rocks. With a back of virgin kitten blood.

The big cat peed on the fucking comforter last night, while I was asleep, right next to my head. Funny thing is, I had *just washed* the fucking comforter because Little Zuzu still thinks it's the softest and bestest litterbox ever.

So I'll be washing the fucking comforter AGAIN today. That is, after I fix the washing machine. Which is leaking. And whose leak is probably not related to the leaking hot water heater (which is right next to said washer) that my landlord is balking at replacing, though it may be making the hot water heater's leak look worse than it actually is.

So, yeah, revenge.

Or maybe some valium.
posted by mudpuppie 24 January | 13:38
Still coffee time for me. Though technically all the hot buttered rums I was drinking last night (it's been cold here) partially took place "today".

posted by unknowncommand 24 January | 13:57
'pups: if I weren't a couple thousand miles off, I'd bring you a couple chouquettes when I get them out of the oven.

I'll be having them with coffee, and later, some scotch.
posted by crush-onastick 24 January | 14:07
Also, pickled string beans in a bloody mary? I like the cut of your jib.
posted by middleclasstool 24 January | 14:08
Are they homemade pickled string beans? Because I love me some a them.

Right now the husband is cooking dinner (goooood husband, gooooood boy) and we're sipping red wine. I want Calvados, but it's too expensive for our current financial status.

Welcome to new folks!
posted by Specklet 24 January | 14:26
A place I used to go in Houston had the string beans in their bloody marys. Yummmmmmm. I haven't made homemade ones, but I probably should. Pickling is fun and delicious.

It's been coffee with Bailey's all day, and now my bottle of Bailey's is empty.

Crying at the Screen

I took a look around the net
I watched some YouTube 'bout some stupid pets
Smoked my first pack of cigarettes today
Then I went down, down to read some MetaChat
Told myself that it ain't so bad
Made a couple posts, told myself I'm not alone
But the white background and bunnies and hugs
Kept reminding me how far that I was from home

And I started crying at the screen
I was missing MetaFilter
I tried refreshing one more time
Somehow I opened my Skype line
And the operator said “Can I help you please?”
And I said “No thanks baby, tonight there ain’t no help for me
You know I just had a bad dream
That’s all that’s wrong with me
You see I just had a bad dream”

This has actually been quite a piss day for me, and it's not quite 2 pm. White Whine to follow:

  1. Neighbor dogs to the north woke up the whole household at 1:30 this morning. This is seriously escalating what I am now calling The War of Northern Aggression, and after nearly three years of trying to work with them to resolve this, I am reduced to hall monitor status. Which means logging dates and times of barking, then getting a neighborhood petition from city animal control so we can haul them into court and pimp-slap them with a fine. I have much better things to do with my time.
  2. Our babysitter cancelled due to a fever. This is double suck because (a) we'd planned to go see a movie, and (b) our niece is the babysitter and she has two sets of parents who take advantage of her and don't recognize her general awesomeness, so we grab any excuse we can get to have her come stay the night and hang out here with us and our kid.
  3. Woke up early, took the morning shift with the kid to let the wife sleep in some. MeFi is down and I am overwhelmed to nutpunch every script kiddie that was ever spawned.
  4. Wife takes over and lets me get a bit more sleep, but I'm woken up by the goddamn dogs again. Neighbors awake, at home, sitting on their lazy, entitled asses.
  5. I log into my Windows box to check on some downloads, only to find my AV software has detected a Trojan. I do not have time to deal with a Trojan. My house is a wreck and I've got a fussy teething toddler, who will in all probability be woken up early from his nap by those goddamn dogs.

Sorry, whine over, and all of it's little stuff, but we're barely past lunch now and I'm already in an OH COME ON state of mind, now that it keeps piling up. Grr. Bad day. And we've implemented a "no booze in the house" policy, so I can't even rely on beer to get me through the day.

Still having coffee, unspiked, because it would not be appropriate to show up at my son's church league basketball game with a buzz. I may be a heathen, but I do have some manners.

Definite plans for whisky later.
posted by lilywing13 24 January | 15:40
I'd like a vanilla espresso over Coke and cream, please.

After that, any drink capable of obliterating all memory of last night. Damn.

Spanish coffee is my new crack. You get to set it on fire, and it has far more caffeine than a red bull & vodka. Hooray for mixing stimulants with tranquilizers.

I went out and bought myself a bottle of prosecco to take the edge off this evening. I also have lined up my support network to come over and coach me through this crisis. Even though none of them are even remotely aware of what metafilter/metachat is, despite my repeated attempts at schooling them.

Tonight - vodka, Ribena and soda (with a lime twist) and vodka, cold-pressed apple juice and soda. Either way, yum!

And I just watched Repo Man for about the 25th time (my bf's 1st time - his filmic education is far from complete). Drink.

Goo, Repo Man is my favorite movie of all time! I watch it once a year. I have it on VHS, dvd, and the soundtrack on vinyl.

Oh, and Long Island iced tea for the moment, but I'll go back to cabernet (which is also in the pasta I'm cooking) when it's done.

**runs off to buy Repo Man soundtrack on cd**

Mudpuppie:

The short version: Harry Dean Stanton.

The longer version: Emilio Estevez, down on his luck due to losing his job and discovering his parents gave away his college fund, becomes apprentice to Harry Dean Stanton's Repo Man. He has a natural confident flair for the work which helps when a) he falls for a girl looking for extra-terrestrial life and b) locating a stolen car that may hold the aforementioned extra-terrestrial life, a car that I could swear was being driven by Dennis Hopper in make-up, but sadly is not.

It was also the first film soundtrack I sampled using my Amiga back in the day.
