Totally Amazing Learn-Hawaiian-By-Distance-Learning Video from 1994. I watched Lesson One, which plays in RealPlayer (low and high bandwidth).

The kumu (teacher), a joyous woman who makes me want to move to Hawaii tomorrow, is the probably the greatest TV teacher I've ever seen: she's right here! She's so close to us! She is also one of the happiest people I've ever seen, and radiates energy.[More:]

She gives deep, wonderful over-the-air advice to a guy who wants to know where the 'okinas go, and even offers to "talk story off the air about that".

There's even a delightful video vignette featuring an auntie and a grandma which is deconstructed, and by the end of the video you'll be greeting people!

Each lesson is an hour, and it's all shot with proto-Powerpoint, as in printed pieces of paper which often fill the whole screen.

I hope you can get as much aloha spirit out of this as I did!
Aloha spirit is real. People actually wave at strangers in other cars over there. . .if you treat people with respect, you will get a lot of warmth in return.

Just don't take off in front of the locals out in the water.
