19 January 2009

Unexpected day off is unexpected. [More:]Today is MLK day and also a holiday for my work. My team was asked to use this day as a floating holiday, so I was going to go in. However, I check my phone on the way to the shower, and viola, no work after all!

I'm going to celebrate by doing what homework I can without school books, work on the JonandMeg site, and maybe get to making the purses I started to cut out 2 weeks ago.

What else should a person do with a free day? (sleeps out, I'm awake now.)
What else should a person do with a free day?

If I had today off, I would contemplate doing the following:

* Hiking/walking
* Going to the gym
* Researching elaborate recipes and picking one to try for dinner
* Going to the used bookstore and getting a good novel, then going to a cafe to read it.
* Trying to tackle some of the hundreds of errands I have to do, including finding a way to dispose of our poor dessicated Christmas tree.

I don't know how many of those things I would actually do, but those are the ones I would contemplate doing.

I've never had this day off before. For us, it's a "mandatory" holiday as opposed to a floating holiday (we have a VERY diverse workforce, which may have influenced the decision).

I'm still in my pajamas (it's 12:30). Trying to pull myself away from the computer. I need to clean the litterbox, clean the kitchen, do some laundry, and open/sort a bunch of mail. All stuff I've been putting off for too long.

What should you do? I don't know, do you want to come over and help?

occhiblu: obviously you should feed the tree to a baby elephant. I mean, who doesn't know that?

OMG I totally have to go get a baby elephant.

*sporfle!*

Yeah, I meant "would" not "should".

All of our holidays are treated as floating if we choose to come in. If I went in today, I probably would have taken a half day tomorrow to watch the inauguration.

So far, I've picked up the clothes that were all over the floor, gotten dressed, and moved files from one spot to another on my server to create space for blog software.

Not bad. *shrugs* Probably more than I would have done at work.

i'm just happy i woke up today! yay! i'm debating making quiche as i'm trying to get all my cooking done on the weekends (even long weekends) for the week but having the house all to my wee self is kind of intoxicating (the husband is at work).

i'm thinking some pron needlepoint and gilmore girls marathon.

i wish you all cozy panyamas day!

I have today off too, and my boyfriend doesn't. I love days like this, when I can do whatever I want without him here. Sounds awful, but once in a while it's lovely. I slept until 11, which already feels like a mistake. But I'm going to crank some boyfriend-disapproved indie rock and do some cleaning, then go to the denim boutique near me and cash in my gift certificate.

Today is the last day of my holiday. Well, sort of. My plane was meant to leave at 11.50pm tonight, but the airline called a few hours ago to say it is now scheduled for 1.45am.

Today Jason and I had Bosnian food for lunch - Pljeskavica - a traditionally made beef patty served with pita bread, chopped onions and roasted pepper sauce. The burger was the size of a dinner plate, but much thinner than a normal burger, and the pepper relish was absolutely delicious. Highly recommended.

I do not want to leave ...

If that's awful, I don't want to be non-awful! (I love the occasional house-to-myself day, much as I love mr alto).

Hey BP, have you seen this animation site yet? || Remember that episode of Friends, the one with the freebie list?
