Things I Am More Interested In Now Than I Used To Be→[More:]1. Politics
2. Biographies
3. Scripted drama
4. Vegetables
1. American football (any positive amount here qualifies as "more than I used to be")
2. French music (in the vein of Fauré, Franck, Saint-Saens...)
3. Felix Mendelssohn
4. Enumerative combinatorics and generating functions
1. Cataloging.
2. Microforms.
3. Throwing things at the stacks because of 1 and 2.
4. Politics (which is fucking shameful, considering where I live).
5. Vegetables with peanut butter on them.
The peanut butter crackers in the snack machine at work. I don't ever buy them, but I feel just about compelled to see if I can Cheat Death by eating a pack (Salmonella outbreak). I like my odds. I go in the break room and stare at them.
1. Real estate. With the market crashing, I'm starting to wonder if I can actually afford to buy something!
2. Politics
3. Hairstyles. I've finally started doing this with my hair other than ponytails.
4. Historical fiction
5. Jazz
Concentrating on writing music and developing a deeper understanding of the more abstract maths. The better question for me is what have I left behind to create more time for those particular pursuits. The big one there is reading fiction, which now feels like such a huge waste of time to me -- as in, why read about some imaginary life when I could be experiencing my own life?
1. Going back to school.
2. Artisanal, farmstead cheese.
3. Flossing.
4. Finding friends who want me as a friend, and not primarily as an unpaid therapist or backup girlfriend.
5. Continuing to live without clutter.
Manhattans -- I think previously the Manhattans I had were made with bourbon and I was meh. Recently I tried one made with straight rye and a really good italian vermouth and I am hooked. 3 dashes bitters, please, and a splash of cherry juice.
I am strongly considering making my own orange bitters if I can get all the various roots and barks. This is where knowing a lot of wiccans is handy. If I get a decent recipe, I will post if anyone would like to receive a sample.
If I get a decent recipe, I will post and send you some of my awesome homemade orange bitters in the mail, even it's all the way to Greece, if anyone would like to receive a sample.
Thanks, a_h, I am considering picking up some of the better ryes and I will put that at the top of my list. The bottle I have now is the Wild Turkey Straight Rye. It's a good starter but I can see where other distillers could improve.
Btw, last Friday I got a chance to have a couple Johnny Walker Blues. I was in a strip club and it totally took my mind off what was wiggling 5 feet away, and in Atlanta that means fully nude. At $40 a shot though, it won't become a habit.
I'll do what I can for you, taz, but since most bitters recipes I have pieced together call for brandy or rum, I may only be able to send you the raw herbs and the recipe. Besides, I think you can get better bitter oranges locally than I can get in the states.
oh... so orange bitters actually use bitter oranges, huh? They are actually littering almost every street in my neighborhood right now. Maybe I'll snap a photo when I take Sky for a walk.
