18 January 2009

Snowing - It's snowing pretty hard. [More:] Everything is quite silent, except the keyboard, the fire is warm, and it's beautiful. I have to put on boots to go out for more wood, but it is otherwise kind of perfect. I think I'll make bread, to make the house warm, smelling yummy, and it would enhance the perfection. The dog is sleeping by the fire, pretending he's a mellow old hound.

To add to my sense of goodness, every time I turn on the teevee or radio, I am reminded that Bush will be out of office in 2 days, and Obama will be in.

I hope you are warm and happy.
You've been outside? What's it like? Fire engines, are they still red?

It hasn't started snowing yet here (we're in the 'band of possible snow showers' which is mostly like 'the sky will be grey and dreary and you'll still have to go to work') but I've been feeling the nesting instinct hard ALL DAY.
(Unfortunately, I drew the short stick and have to roll in to work tomorrow, but I suppose the time and a half makes up for it.)

Snowing pretty hard here too, just north of theora55. Alas, I have no fireplace, but I do have lots of beer and a new TV and a couple of elderly cats. I might even make bread.

Warm, clean, and chicken soupy smelling. Actually I don't know if it's chicken soup or not, I was told it's a surprise. It's been cold & rainy all day. We've been hanging in the cave & loving every second of it, with beer, food and sleeping cats & dogs.

It's so bizarre that while it's freezing and snowing on the East Coast, it's in the 70s in Northern California (and I think it's up to the 80s in SoCal).

We're hovering around a 40% chance of snow in Philly - luckily it hasn't happened yet ... I feel as if I am leading a charmed life this winter. Apart from a small snowfall in November that cleared up in a few days, we have not had any snow that settled. It's in the 20s this week, but last week it was in the 50s here. We seem to have our own microclimate on the edge of the storms -- and I am loving it .... :-)

Yeah, it's 81 in Central California right now. This is the first time since moving West that I've felt completely out of step with the rest of the country. It's weird.

Oh yes - and I'm with chewy that nothing beats the smell of warm dogs on a cold day ... :-)

I like the smell of my dog when she has just come in from fresh frosty outside air. It is not terribly cold (not like Friday was) but there was a little very dry snow this morning that came down and swirled around on the roads. It didn't last long, but it was very pretty.

I have a chicken and dressing in the oven; should be another 20 minutes or so. And I finished all my grading on Friday, so this weekend's been all gravy for me.

A chilly 30-odd here in Poland. Sidewalks sort of clear of last week's snow, which has hung around in the woods.

Chicken and dumplings tomorrow night. Omnomnomnom!

It's 30 odd here too. I'm in a short skirt and thongs - yes thongs, not flip flops. Thongs. That's what we call 'em here.

Of course, that 30 odd is in degrees Celsius, which is approximately 90 degrees Fahrenheit...

Speaking of thongs... I saw a guy wearing a pistachio green dress shirt yesterday. He was quite dolled up. He'd found a pair of thongs in the exact same shade of green! Who matches their casual footwear and dress shirts?? Bizarre.

It was in the upper 60s here. The kittens have been hanging out in front of the screen door watching the chickens, who have been hanging out on the lawn chairs. (I really need to break them of that habit. I got new cushions for them last summer.)

No snow here. It is my husband's birthday, however, plus it is some super-important Steelers game. I made shrimp and grits for dinner, and a peanut butter/chocolate graham cracker crust pie for his special sporty-dessert. How do we hang with that?
posted by msali 18 January | 19:50
Uh oh. Don't let that peanut butter give ya salmonella.

jonmc, not only have I been outside today, but boo and I had pizza at Lombardi's too, and thought of you as we nom-nom-nommed it.

Snowed a lot here today, looks nice. At least it's not so cold, it's almost up to freezing here.

Grimaldi's is better. Plus, you get option of the lovely Brooklyn Bridge walk. (I'm offering these tips for free to all that want too woo).

totally in-between here, at 55°F; I'm jealous of the snow and the fireplace and the bread. I have the snoozing dog, though.

Well, my sarcrastic and nauseus self bought studded snow tires that arrived last week, so I am looking forward to riding my BIKE all over the high plains when the ice and snow return. German product; natch. My China/slave state/human rights violators boycott continues.

What were only supposed to be flurries have turned into a full-on snow storm here. Love it. I could never live somewhere without snow.
