Boy howdy! It's colder than a witch's monkey in a brass sh*thouse! Or something like that. I'm making tostadas and staying indoors. How are you staying warm tonight?
wool, blankets, cats and a toddy.

Beans and potatoes, Mad Men on DVD.

Woodstove going on full. Electric heat will be going on all over the house all night. Will be using my down sleeping bag as a cover on my bed tonight. Had been thinking of making chocolate chip cookies, but it's getting a bit late now...

Going to be dancing in a few minutes, which will make me warm. But it's not really cold here, so that's it for that. We're going to walk to dinner after I dance (working out, heh).

My favorite cold saying (which for some reason lots of people knew but I'd never heard before): Colder than a well digger's balls. My aunt used that, and I almost died from laughing too hard.

(Stay warm you guys, that's some nasty weather)

Steaming hot chupe de pollo con chipotle. NOM. Entourage on DVD and about to take a bubble bath. Oh yeah.

I drove to the theatre, even though it was only a few blocks away. I'm doing my part trying to make the planet warmer. :/

I've currently got a t-shirt, sweatshirt, thick PJ pants, and ankle socks on. I've warmed up quite a bit since I came home due to lots of cursing at boxes while I was packing up some stuff I sold. (Tomorrow is pretend to be an adult day by going to the bank in person for once and the Post Office!)

Hot shower, steak, red wine. Unfortunately that will involve walking to the store for wine between the shower & the steak. Oh, well. Sacrifices must be made.

I've got a flannel over a South Park t-shirt, a pair of grey sweatpants and of course an ace-bandage-wrapped fiberglas cast to keep me warm. I had some tater skins earlier. I've got beer, a Tim Sandlin novel, Oreos and M*A*S*H dvds.

I have my soft fluffy robe on over my clothes, and my electric blanket is turned to 8 on the dial warming my bed before I go crawl into it. Earlier it was homemade soup, white wine and American Idol.

It's been a good evening.

It's getting down to 25 tonight, which, I realize is warmer than the high for a lot of you, so no crowing.

If it makes you feel better, I need to get up and bike to work in that temp.

Wood stove going, bed early. . . .

Electric mattress pad warmer going on the bed, heat not down to 55 tonight like usual [ooooh I'll splurge and keep it at 58] sleeping in hat and flannel pjs and staying warm, as always, through misdirected rage at petty bureaucrats who make my rural technology job a living hell on earth by blaming each other instead of fixing the problems. Ahem.

Watched The Boiler Room for warmth, then Crash for coldness.

My own staying-warm strategy involves having moved from Minneapolis to the Pacific Northwest a year and a half ago.

(And I feel terrible for everyone back in the upper Midwest! Honest! I have been on the phone to all my old friends and family telling them how guilty I felt today as I walked to work in the 48-degree weather! They may never speak to me again!)

I'm so nervous the pipes will freeze in one of our empty apartments where the heat's turned down.

Anyway, maybe my cat Fry will deign to sleep in my bed tonight.

Heater and humidifier in the baby's room to keep him from keeping the whole house up with coughing. Super-sweet jammies I got for Christmas. Blinding rage at the neighbors. Hot chocolate. Lego Batman. Magic houseshoes. Three layers of blankets.

One of the concessions one must make when owning multiple guitars, especially 12 strings and acoustics, is having to maintain a constant environment, otherwise much retuning ensues. That means I have winterized this place in every way imaginable. I see however that the low here on Friday may be 11 and to be honest, I doubt this place ia insulated well enough to keep the furnace from running all night.

On the flip side, back in October I was planning to move to Wisconsin this week. I can guarantee you that ain't happenin no way.

Just about to pop down to a barbie by the river, actually. I will stay warm by leaving the aircon and walking to the barbie.

Central heat, baby. I'm gonna crank that sucker to 80 and walk around sweating in my underwear.

Actually wearing a sweater

I'm thinking that the judicious use of blankets and a large, furry, often immobile cat may help, too.

-32 (C) here not including the wind chill factor, this is going to suck.

It's going to get down to 11 F tonight. North Carolina is not supposed to be that cold. I'm going to Athens (GA, sorry Taz!) and Atlanta this weekend (HI BP!!), and it will be marginally warmer there. As in 18 F in the mornings. I've survived camping in 18 F weather, so I'll deal.
posted by Stewriffic 15 January | 10:21
Oh CRAP! In Athens it's going to get down to 7 F. That means -13 C. Not quite -32 C, but still. GEORGIA, USA. Not OK.

My hot water heater (that feeds the radiators) just conked out about three hours ago, so I'm really very glad that it's mild here at the moment - 59 °F according to my internet weather station.
posted by taz 15 January | 10:42
taz. -59 is not mild. I'm hoping you mean just plain ole 59. :-)
posted by Stewriffic 15 January | 10:45
yes! plain ole 59. That should have been an em dash in front of the "59" but who can remember how to format an em dash?!

Back in the old days of typewriters, we just hit the hyphen twice. But it was colder then, so we hit most of the keys twice, what with the shivering and all. That's why some words have double letters. True fact.
posted by elizard 15 January | 10:57
like "freezing" used to just be "frezing" back before the ice age and the shivering.
posted by taz 15 January | 11:05
phew. that scared me for a minute, because OMG the poor greeks.
