Ranty. Bewildered. If you live in a country other than the U.S., you've probably had some access issues with various sites from time to time. For whatever reason, some sites don't want you to see their precious words or images if you're not a yanqui, and use a variety of redirection methods to thwart your yearning mind. Whevs, right? Assholes. But, here's one that breaks my tiny brain... [More:]

By coincidence, I've run into the site dominomag.com, several times over the past couple of days... once when I was doing a search about collage or assemblage or something, once in an orange swan post on mefi, and I don't remember the other path that led me to this "guide to living with style". *rolls eyes*

Anyway, dominomag has gone through all the trouble to secure a Greek domain name, so that they can redirect me there just to give me the 403 middle finger:

Forbidden

You don't have permission to access / on this server.

They actually send me to dominomag.gr for this little love letter, which is kind of bizarre since they could have dissed me directly from the .com. What makes it especially weird is that a Gr domain is a big old pain in the butt to acquire. This site says:

.GR Domain Name: Must provide tax office number, Greek ID card number, type of business, (FEK) number/date (greek companies), photocopy of Greek ID or passport, photocopy of document containing tax registry number.

and charges $250 for a registration fee.

Really? You're going through all that trouble to say, "fuck you"? You shouldn't have, really... I would have been satisfied with any old "you do not have permission to view this page" directly from the main site, but thanks for thinking of me!

a little detour to anonymouse has allowed me to view your wondrous and magical "shopping in palm springs" and "ten tidiness tips" anyway, suckahs. shut up i hack you.

Nothing to worry about taz - They probably just misconfigured the web server. It's easily done & without someone to check all the domains, they probably don't even know it's wrong.

Send em an email and tell them and they should be able to put things right.

I know what you mean Taz. I've been in India for the past week and a half and I couldn't watch anything on hulu. The stupid site will let me browse to all the shows, choose an episode etc but when I click play it's a big fuck you.

Also, I was hoping to remotely access my computer back home and this didn't happen either. gah.

I also have fuck you woes, being in England.

Yeah it sucks when sites do that. I also hate how I have to reset a lot of sites who immediately serve me content in Japanese instead of English. I still think it's polite to give people a choice.

I currently live in Vietnam...one of 13 countries in the world which censors the internet. I'm not about to try to test that out :)
