Four point status update... - one that picks you up and brings ya down.....[More:]
1) The new server was dead, dead dead. Beyond dead. Oh noes! All my intarwebstuffs! GONE! Freshly taken DB backups corrupted! heartbreak and tears
2) Old server still has DB & posts on it until October 2008! OH YEAY! I can recreate most posts I shall survive! *does a disco dance*
2) The awesome ossom awesome non nom Dali purse I want want want is for sale again, oh yeay!!
4) I'm broke still - especially since I now have to suddenly invest in new server! *shakes fists at sky* Aaargh!

---- now I'm dizzy How about you?
1) Frozen. Like outside for ten seconds from school to car, and my feet take an HOUR to recover. My feet are in big shoes and thick wooly socks.
2) Not sleepy yet. First day back at work in weeks, kind of tired, but not sleepy.
3) New guy at work is solid. No craziness.
4) I'm drinking tap water to save money. Our tap water is not, shall we say, ready for prime-time, but so far so good.

1) Son's car blowed up on Saturday, looks like a piston put a hole in the oil pan. Now we're down to one car and his community college campus is almost inaccessible by bus. He would have to take three different buses to get from home to class and it would take two hours to go 12 miles. Looks like he's going to be borrowing my car for a while (joy).

2) Still no job and not too many postings to apply to.

3) I can almost breath, this death sinus infection is releasing it's death grip on me.

4) Pitt is ranked #1

1. I feel quite refreshed and ready to conquer the world (or at least make some progress on the number of projects I've got going on at work at the moment) and not quite so hopeless about my housing situation after spending 5 days at my homie's place. We did nothing but drink, smoke, play board games, and watch movies--but it was fucking amazing.

2. Of course, I think the one project that I'm trying to see if I can possibly swing some awesome open source goodness for is going to go wayyyyyyyyyyy over my head. It's got all this strange php and server and stuff and things that I don't understand yet, but I will.

3. I have to wait on lots of things. I do not like waiting. I cannot make decisions without information from these other people's decisions.

4. Pops retired last week and now both him and mom are home all day, every day. I have no idea how they are going to handle this. I know I'm already feeling a bit stressed because of it. I will now have zero privacy. (Down from the 1% I had before, heh.) I've just got to wait for some of the #3 decisions to be made and then the countdown to GTFO will begin.

ethylene, you sound uncanny like the little devil on my shoulder. ;)

That purse is fantastic. I vote purse as well.

1) Had a horrible meeting at work today. Quick summary--people are working on their own agendas and trying to pass it off as being for the good of the whole. Ugh.
2) Buying a house sometime soon. Woo!!
3) Did some community education about goal setting for 7th graders in a YMCA program. They were a bouncing ball of uncontrollable energy, in a bad way.
4) One of the kids, though, set as his goal "to be happy." Sad, in a way, but I talked to him a little outside of the group, and I think I helped him. Both in setting a specific goal about happiness, and in getting him more help than I can give. I felt really good about it.

SHOO little devils! Away away! I can not buy that purse unless I win the lottery tomorrow, I have major major bills mounting and very little income! But gawd oh gawd I sooo want it. Can I bid "delay auction until Dabitch is richer?". Cuz I so totally would.
posted by dabitch 05 January | 20:43
(And I can't condone the purse, but that's because I'm a terribly cheap and practical spoilsport.)

1. About halfway done the job, and now operating in the black (got an advance, which I have now worked off). Serious signs of progress, and yay, money!

2. Need to sit stepmother down & explain that because of the state of the walls & ceilings, this job is going to cost her more than twice what she thought in labour, even at the super duper family discount, and see what she wants to do.

3. This is going to be difficult, because she does not speak to me. No, really. Barely at all, even if I speak to her. We're in the same room for a total of 15 minutes a day, tops. This is nothing personal, I've been assured by other family, she's just feeling pissy and hates sharing her space. (It's a 4 bedroom house, and I spend my non-work time in my room to keep out of her hair.) However, it's driving me nuts and reminds me why I only come here about once every 6 years, if that: she's always like this with me, and it takes me that long to forget how horrible it is. Funny, we get along so well on the phone.

4. Think I may have come up with a solution that will keep us from killing each other (silently, of course) and keep me from walking out with the job half-finished (which came soooooooooo close to happening today). I don't want to walk, but I'm too old for this shit. Hopefully solution will be accepted and work. If we get a chance to talk about it. Plus, it means I get to go see my other beloved uncle! And his horses! And be outlandish and silly while my aunt shakes her head and says, "You guys, honestly. And no, you can't play Freddie Bear again--I've hidden it."

It's a Schiaparelli. A Dali Schiaparelli. Honestly, is that considered a ridiculous amount of money for a Schiaparelli purse?

2. Tired.
3. Worried.
4. Watcing The Office.

db, can you pull any content from the waybackmachine or similar? I don't know much technical webstuffs but I do know how it feels to have something I have worked hard on crumble...what a yucky feeling.

that purse is divine.

Now i almost want the purse.
posted by ethylene 05 January | 22:35
@meeshell - I'm doing (kinda) that, grabbing from RSS readers friends had squirreled posts away in - but I have lost two months worth of users which is the real bummer. People I really admire in advertising had signed up, and even my old tutors. How embarrassing to loose their accounts. And all user generated content (such as images uploaded to posts or comments) gone -- October 22nd is what we got. It could be worse though so I'll just work away here and duck while some people will obviously be upset they lost their accounts and get angry with me.

I like Stewriffic's "be happy" goal-guy. That was good. I am mentally watching the office with Miko right now 'cuz I always wanted to hang out with Miko. :)

ps - IRONY I still have an old metachat backup in here. SRSLY!

That's my freaking birthday, dabs, October 22. Nice to see it stuck in something's memory, ha.

Seriously, i have lost more than some people will ever do, so i feel for the loss to the abyss, but it's fixable, which is a minor hell its own.
i daren't fill out my own four. The roller coaster, she is too much for the people with weak hearts.

1. In Mississippi. Not by choice. Gah! (Stoopid job)

2. Tired -- have been traveling since 6:00 a.m. PST and it is now 11:00 in Mississippi. Strange airport times. Am about to go to sleep.

3. Have been doing a mini health kick for about 4 weeks -- oatmeal in the morning, water or lemon water, a few things like that. Feeling like maybe it's working.

4. Off to bed.

5. Hooray, peace reigns. Good talk, all sorted, misunderstandings understood, clearing out for the weekend to give her some much-needed space, relations better in the meantime. Whew.

Ossom! Better than a purse with a light in it, even. :) High fives!
posted by dabitch 06 January | 12:24
Hey, that's great to hear, elizard. "Misunderstandings Understood" would make a nice album title. As a song title, though, it has a certain wordiness that would be difficult to pull off, like Scandinavian soul.

1. I'm still sick, though my juices are running clearer and clearer all the time.

2. Not buying a train ticket back to NYC for after the holidays was prescient, as convalescing at my childhood home is the nearest to bliss a persistent cough and stuffy head will allow.

3. Lots of footie on the tellie -- the guvna DVR'd the weekend's Spanish League action as well as FA Cup third round matches, so I've gandered a few lovely grounds like Forest Green's New Lawn and Preston North End's Deepdale. Plus there's a Copa Del Rey game today, Barça methinks. If I'm still hacking up bits of lung I'll get to watch the BCS gridiron championship on Thursday.

4. I really enjoy spending time with my folks, and watching sports with my pa is always fun. He's about a day ahead of me on this cold, so the two of us hack and cough and drink tea and laugh about the stupid things sportscasters say. Plus the action is on the 51" plasma TV my ma won in a sweepstakes last year, and the HD is mesmerizing.

dabitch, nothing could be better than a purse with a light in it. But this comes close.

Much of the misunderstanding had to do with (mis)information she got from Dad. We should all know by now not to rely on the men in this family for accurate intelligence--they're delightful, every one of them, but they live in a different world and information seems to follow a strange and bafflizing route when they process it. They're like self-contained games of broken telephone.

1. Internet at the house has been down since 12/31.

2. Home phone is through Vonage, so home phone has also been down since 12/31.

3. Cell phone ended up in a puddle of water on the counter two nights ago and died yesterday; I'm hoping it's just the battery, so we ordered a new one, but that hasn't arrived yet.

4. I think the universe is trying to tell me something.

1. Sleeting outside my window right now. I'd prefer snow, thank you very much.

2. Wore a new skirt today, close fitting, just below the knee. I felt sexy!

3. Wore my new shoes, too. Kitten heels, pointy toe. More sexy!

4. Not looking forward to work tomorrow. My boss is on vacation, so a lot falls on my shoulders as opposed to the fill-in manager.

1. Eating pretzel sticks. These pretzels are making me thirsty. But I am too lazy to get water.

2. Annoyed because my HR dept and insurance company keep listing me as a man and denying me coverage for birth control. Have not ever been a man.

3. Bought things on my way back from CVS to make me feel better about not being a man: sexy nightgown and supersale red heels.

4. Get the purse or I will and then you'll be sorry because I'll be all "have you seen my ossum new purse? It's mine and you can't touch it." Maybe you could contact the seller and do some sort of layaway plan or something?

Also, too, get the purse.
