Good luck!

YAY!!! I've been through it. It sucks. Hang in there, and when you feel the crap and the pain, tell yourself that your body is tricking you into thinking you need to smoke. When really you need not to. That's what helped me...
WHUFFLES!

2 days? not bad! keep it up!
You should take this opportunity of sitting around a lot and being fidgety with your hands to whittle something.

The patch helps a lot. When i tried to go cold turkey a few months back, I was climbing the walls and as touchy as a grizzly bear. The physical craving is much lower this time around.

Hi! Maybe being laid off last year was practice for this.

(also, I apologize for looking like I slept in a dumpster. it's impossible to shower in this thing, and shaving seems silly when one is filthy.)

My mother was a pack+ a day smoker and finally kicked it about 7 or 8 years ago with the patch. She's evangelical about it now.

My last brother-in-law used patches to stop smoking. He did have one unfortunate experience, though, when he mistakenly attached one of my sister's HRT patches by mistake. To his eternal regret, he discovered his mistake in the presence of his twin brother. Consequently, when he and my sister turned up at his parents' house for Christmas a few weeks later, all the men had balloon boobs under their shirts, and he was given a bra as a Christmas present.

Good for you, jonmc!!!

jan, your story had me rolling!

Hey, the patches do the job, jonmc. Slowly, but it gets done. Just find something for your hands to do - make new habits or fidgets or something. Good luck!

ok, jan, what I want to know is if he felt better on the HRT patch

Good luck to you! Quitting smoking was probably the best thing I ever did for myself. It is so good to be free of them - very liberating. And yeah, obviously it's much better for your health although to be honest, I was more choked that cigarettes controlled me than I was concerned about the health aspect. I hung out at a couple of forums when I first quit. It helped me to realize I wasn't alone. Good luck!!

Best of luck to you, and I hope to be able to join you in a non-smoker's club this year.

Good luck with this - I found that the patches worked really well. Plus, if you use the 24-hour ones, you get wild dreams that almost make the whole process worthwhile. Something I found though - even getting rid of that last (smallest) patch was difficult for me, so I created another stage - I cut the smallest patches in half and used those for an extra few weeks. Not sure if it's sound medically, but keep using the patches for as long as you need to, regardless of the advice on the box. I can't imagine that the patches are not better for your health in any number of ways than the fags anyway.
