Tomorrow I have heart cath #7 or #8, I lost track years ago. I know already that I must make some extensive quality- vs quantity-of-life decisions, adding meaning to 'resolutions'. So, two guys walk into a bar... ;-P

Seriously, though, be well, my friend. Nothing sucks more than the hospital at the holidays.

Long shot, but I thought of you. Might this apply? I saw a woman on the news recently who a similar heart pump/assist device seems to have worked miracles for. They were able to remove it after awhile; it seems to have given her heart a chance to rest and heal. You and your doctors have probably already considered this, but I just thought I'd mention it. They seem to be using it more now. (Not a doctor/expert, of course.)
