27 December 2008

I declare this song to be my theme song for 2009! What's yours and why?[More:]It's 70-groovy, has its share of teen angst, and solemnly declares that my soul must grind through what may yet be. Plus, though I was a teen only in the latter 80s, it reminds me of rebelling against my parents by driving my god-awful kelly green ford escort to the only beach in New Hampshire for the day during the summer, which they never found out about - strict though they were with their only daughter.

kick ass!
Gosh! One song? For a whole year? When I don't even know what it'll bring with it yet?

This video from Bette Midler sums up everything I want to be as I close out my last year in my 30s: a brassy, raunchy, diva who can still belt it out and give them a little jiggle without surrendering the respect and dignity she's earned over the years.

I can never pick a theme song for the year ahead of time. (I pick one at the end when I take a look at what songs are on my currently listening playlist on iRock and if they wind up in my top 25 listened.)

(Although in college, everyone said my theme songs for life were NIN-Perfect Drug and VAC-Phucking Phreak, so make of it what you will.)

Awesome eatdonuts! I'm old enough to remember when that came out, and it is worthy of a theme song. Such a hairy group before when looking good on video was important. You rock!

Everything That Happens Will Happen Today.

I ride on a perfect freeway
Many people on that road
I heard the sound of someone laughing
I saw my neighbors car explode

Just up ahead
Against the sky
Quicker than you blink your eye

Chorus: Oh my brother, I still wonder, are you alright?
And among the living, we are giving, all through the night

From the milk of human kindness
From the breast we all partake
Hungry for a social contract
She welcomes you with dark embrace

(puts) socks and shoes
Upon our feet
Little fishes swim upstream

Chorus: Oh my brother, I still wonder, are you alright?
In the deepest silence, gold and diamonds, all through the night

Everything that happens will happen today
& nothing has changed, but nothing's the same
and ev'ry tomorrow could be yesterday
and ev'rything that happens will happen today

ev'rything that happens will happen today
and nothing has changed but nothing's the same
& ev'ry tomorrow could be yesterday
and ev'rything that happens could happen today

Why? Hmmm... I think because this song reminds me that I need to stay engaged with life. I have a very comfortable life, and it's easy for me to become passive, and if I have a New Year's resolution, it's that I'm going to try to get out of my comfort zone a little more this year. Everything that happens could happen today.

As I try to make a life without an ex who still monopolizes my time (for example, she called me five times today), Rose Melberg's "Take Some Time" sums up how I feel on good days:

There is nothing quite so fine as
sitting in this patch of sunshine
Something of my own
a place to sing alone

It's gonna take some time
to fix this love of mine

My life has had wake-up and go-to-sleep themes: 'The Time Warp' and 'Ca Plane Pour Moi'.

Hey Sheriff by the Backsliders. Why? No reason, really.

This has been my theme song for a while now, and will be until I find another.

I love that movie, bunnyfire. I actually bought the DVDs, and I never do that. I thought this was a better vid, tho. :)

Unless I think of something better - and I did think about this - I believe it will have to remain May Today Become the Day.
