Song-blogging anyone? Introducing Ken Ficara, who is writing new songs as he travels across country from NYC to Arizona.[More:]

I believed I've linked to Ficara's work before (here's a version of a new one that I think I listen to way too often at work, along with "I Don't Like Mondays"), and the fact that you can hear the train whistles and the tracks actually running beneath this rough cut is amazing.

I really wish I were on the train with him right now, watching him create music.
Many great albums were written this way. Two of my favorites come immediately to mind: Joni Mitchell's Hejira and Son Volt's Trace.

As a composer myself, I tend to consider the entire act of writing songs a form of lifeblogging, so this seems like a bit of a sly marketing conceit to me, but you gotta have a gimmick these days, so this one works as well as any other.

Neat. I know that train line well. (Though I think maybe I need to write one for the North Jersey Coast Line, too).

Put me in a good mood to head back to NJ for the holidays!

I was hoping you'd chime in, Miko, since I know you did the song-writing month thinger.
