I signed up for twitter ages ago. I never go there but often get an email that so-and-so (someone I had never heard of) is following me there, or whatever.

What is twitter for? I don't get it.

danf: it could be a way to share an interesting link with friends without email-spamming them. Or if you're meeting a few people for drinks, update your whereabouts on twitter rather than txt/call them individually. Or do like I do and just post random shit/rants/observations about your day. I don't know why 45 people want to read that, but they do.
