Ask MeCha: New desktop wallpaper to make me smile? Been having a craptacular week, and I need some desktop wallpaper that's going to make me laugh or smile every time I start up the computer. Suggestions?
Sorry you're having such a bad week. Hang in there, it'll get better.

Here's a smiley/colorful wallpaper to cheer you up

Try the Teddynauts (two threads down).

Googling for wallpaper is an endless parade of celebrity photos, wet ladies, my-computer's-better-than-yours smug, and anime characters. I've been trying for a couple of days to find good 1440x900 images, and it ain't easy.

I have one of Jessamyn's photos as my wallpaper. This photo of an apple. There's something about the colors and the depth that makes me happy every time I see it.

Mandolux is normally good for moodier, more contemplative backgrounds, but this happy snowman has been making me smile recently.

This sunflower is my go-to summer wallpaper. If you're not a sxc member, I think you have to sign up (for free) to access the full-size version. Penguins on the beach is another good one.

Also, if you're a Peanuts fan, you could browse through here. Cheesy, I know, but sometimes that works. :)

Ooh! I almost forgot. The original Pooh drawings, recently linked on MeFi, would make great wallpapers. I downloaded some of the bigger ones (1, 2, 3) for this exact purpose. You'd have to do some creative cropping to make them fit wallpaper size exactly, but it would work.

And if you're a Pushing Daisies fan (unlikely, but still), these hi-res publicity shots are pretty great.

Try mandolux, middleclasstool. Seriously. It's friggin fantastic. Quality, hi-res photos already cropped for every size screen (plus really great compositions if you have more than one monitor)

Oh, one more. I especially like the third, sixth, and eleventh ones. I'm done now!

The kitty from BoringPostcard's post is now my desktop.

And I like APOD, though the resolutions are not always what I'd prefer.

Oh wow, wallpaper. The only time I see mine is when starting up or shutting down the computer. I use panorama to randomize mine. Get it here.

Ooh, Mandolux indeed. Thanks, all.

I like APOD, too. Here's a Smile in the Sky

Unsurprising, I'm a Pushing Daisies fan! Thanks for the link. I had no idea. -surprised-

Oh, I love the APOD site. I've got a ton of pics for my sidebar/screensaver from there.

This might be worth a laugh:

Smashing Magazine posts new calendars monthly, most of them with calendar options. I love using them for work. Here are the wallpapers for December, but you can browse through all of them here.
