Cissy from Family Affair was Smoking Hot! Much [More:] YouTube.

In my vast epic dream landscape this mornng, The image of Cissy dressed as Roman Royalty emerged on a hung up sheet showing a movie in a camp environment. I turned to my neighbor and said "My God, is that Cissy from Family Affair? She was BEAUTIFUL!"

After I woke up, I though how when I watched Family Affair re-runs, I was Buffy & Jody sized, and didn't register Cissy much. I also though how I know that most of the Family Affair cast went through hard times and came to poor ends, or at least ends. I wondered if she was one of them. I could see her in the seventies, in a New York Apt., doing coke while getting pounded by Brian Keith who would be appearing on Broadway in a Brian Friel play. I hoped she made it that long. (Actually, she's still living and working - Kathy Garver.)

I wonder if there is a name for the doppler effect way that we process visual images differently at different ages. For example looking at my HS yearbook a few years ago, there was a shot of two teachers who later, after her divorce, ended up married. I could see their thirty-ish selves looking at me from this picture and totally tell they were together, something I wasn't able to do at seventeen.

Family Affair thoughts? Other examples of this phenomenon?
I'd never even heard of that show until now. Interestingly, they tried to do a remake of it, with Tim Curry playing the Mr. French role. The only YouTube vid I found of the new show was this kinda stupid mashup of weird Tim Curry line readings.

When I first saw Fast Times at Ridgemont high I was a teen, and I thought Phoebe Cates was smoking hot. I recently looked up the famous pool scene on Youtube. I still think she is smoking hot, but now that makes me a dirty old man.

Dude, I just looked her up to jog my memory and found this (you may want to turn down your speakers and look over your shoulder when following this link, while I wouldn't say it's graphically NSFW, it's definitely in the grey area).

Yes, she is. Smoking hot. Dirty old man.

I really like the concept of applying the doppler effect to something besides sound and light. Cool.

I had the HUGEST crush on Holly Marshall/Kathy Coleman from Land of the Lost back in the day. Now I look back and think OH MY GOD!

Barbara Eden and Elizabeth Montegomery, made staying home sick from school sooo worth it.

When I was 9 my ideal woman was Kim Richards from Escape to Witch Mountain (at the time - the greatest movie EVER) and No Deposit No Return. At the time I recall thinking how mature she was (she was almost two years older than me!) and how she was much cooler than all of the girls in my school. A few years later was still so smitten with her (especially now that she was "so grown up") that I even watched Hello Larry, the McLean Stevenson sitcom she co-starred in and looked forward to seeing her on shows like Different Strokes.

Now all I see is a kid, but back then I thought she was so beautiful that of course EVERYBODY of any age had a crush on her.

Diana Rigg on The Avengers. . . .my god. . .she and I did it every which-a-way, in my mind.

I am just old enough to have watched Family Affair when it was primetime TV. I hated that Cissy was so often just a support role subordinate to the kids. I also believed that Mr French sleeping in your bed would be a good monster deterrent, but that's a different story.

Slack-a-gogo - if you have ANY interest in this sort of movie, see "Black Snake Moan." The director tracked down Kim Richards, who was no longer acting, and cast her as Christina Ricci's Mom. She did great, and the director said - A - he had a huge crush on her as a kid, and B - he wanted someone who had been a child actor (like Ricci). Pretty cool!

When I was thirteen I had a crush on Sydney Penny, who at the time was just the girl from "Pale Rider," though since then she's been in a few flicks and a lotta soaps.

Heh! I was in love with here too but as a gay kid, I didn't fantasize about her in her super mod costumes, I just wanted to wear them.

To clarify, I never had a crush on Cissy . . . it just came to me in my dream. Wierd, but not so hard to figure out, as yesterday was a Family Holiday, with all the contingent wierdness.

My adolescent TV crush was Albert on Little House On The Prarie. Strange Youtube link, but rings somehow true.

Wow. Looking at that Albert thing again, wow, how consistent am I - a weakness for dark haired, dark eyed, thick featured yet shorter-ish/smaller-ish men - like my Dad and My Husband and Bruce Springteen and Michael Landon, and, and, and. . .many trial runs and diversions.

rainbaby,

It's a pleasant surprise that both 'Cissy' and 'Jody' are still alive.

I thought the girls on 'Lost in Space' and 'Petticoat Junction' were hot.
