Suck it, haters!

O awesome! I agree, it's about time we got some good news on this front!

Yesterday evening, a friend informed me that the Phelpses were at PSU to protest a unisex bathroom. Please! We've had those at Reed for decades!

a UNISEX BATHROOM?? What is this, the time of Charlemagne? Were they concerned men would see women's ankles below the doors and be driven mad by lust?

Although, really, better that than funerals, I suppose.

I'm guessing it has to do with accommodating transsexuals. The Phelpses wouldn't want that, oh my no.

Oh hooray! Hooray!!!! I am so happy for all the families that otherwise would not have been. I'm actually tearing up a little bit.

This is awesome, but I can guarantee you there'll be a constitutional amendment on the ballot ASAP. They did it here in my state, they'll do it in Florida too. This is only the beginning of the fight for Florida.

Fucking awesome. :)

And danf's link is great... I think I really like the folks of Silverton, Ore., a LOT.

Woo! I (heart) the equal protection clause.

One thing that jumped out at me from that article was the Mississippi law -- it allows adoptions by single gay people, but not gay couples.

That was really astounding to me. The whole presumption there is that there's a shared bed, right? And that's what we need to protect the kids from?

That's how I took it, anyway. I don't see how anyone can think that one parent is better than two, given the choice of having two caring, competent parents.

Sad but probably true, mct.

Yes, sad but true. I imagine it will be on the ballot in 2010.

It is very good news, though. Very good. The fact that gay parents can foster but not adopt is downright absurd. It's shameful. Get me out of here.

I shook my head on the Mississippi thing as well. It's nuts. I guess it's a way for them to somehow please the homophobes. What's stopping a single gay person from becoming a couple after adopting? Nothing.

Wow that unisex thing is ridiculous. Think they do that at home, too?

Yes, sad but true. I imagine it will be on the ballot in 2010.
To look on the bright side, that will give someone an opportunity to take it to the supreme court, at least.
