Ask MeCha Yet another one of those "Goddamn, there needs to be a website for this" questions...→[More:]

Boss is waiting for her plane from England to take off and send me a pitch proposal from a company who wants to do business with her. I've run the basis Google search and I am thinking they paid for SEO services because they're all over the free sites and the "All about [INSERT COMPANY NAME HERE]" sites, but I can't find any stories on them or whatever at all.

Is there one or two reputable websites where you can find good, objective information about businesses? I'm specifically looking for info on a business based in the U.K.

How reputable they are, who other clients have been, etc. And the latter info is kinda on the website, but I doubt it's easily searchable.

Basically, trying to find out if it's worth my boss (and her developer's) time and money.

Our company uses Dunn & Bradstreet reporting to evaluate potential commercial clients (basically, what is the potential that they are going to stiff us on the bill after we deliver our work?) It's not free, but the one-time price for a smaller package on a domestic company is pretty reasonable.

Ah right. That kind of thing is hard to find in the UK. I often need to check out companies for work and the only information is really via Companies House, where you have to pay to get copies of the last filed accounts, details of the company's officers, etc. Nothing really about who they do business with.
