Sarah Palin goes to a Wasilla turkey farm to pardon a turkey before thanksgiving. Cute. She then proceeds to give a TV interview while turkeys are being slaughtered in the background. →[More:]She really is the gift that keeps on giving.
You need a little bit of levity in that job. You need to get involved in something that isn't heavy-handed politics that invites criticism. At least it's fun.
I like that her last affirmation, "I'm in charge of the turkey" is so metaphorical.
But here's the thing... She revolts me because of all the "Obama is a Terrorist" bullshit and the sneering about "community organizer" and her other coded messages, and she disgusts me because she believes that political office is all about the cute personality and attractive physicality while actual intelligence or competence is not only meaningless, but suspect... and she infuriates me because she has made the struggle that women face in politics much worse with her insipidness, wardrobe malfunctions and winky flirtatiousness... plus debuting with the salvo that Hillary Clinton was a "whiner" about the sexism in politics/media before finally slithering off stage complaining about the same thing herself.
So, I don't like her. At all. Yet, a lot of what has happened to her really is unfair and creepy. I think she's unfair and creepy (and would be monstrous if she ever gained real power), so I don't really lie awake nights worrying about the mistreatment of Sarah Palin, but I wish it had all been less about her reproductive choices, her clothes, her hair, her chicks-with-guns-hot-or-notness. She did indeed push most of that stuff up front in lieu of more substantive qualities or skills (and to kinda keep the, you know, focus offa that ethics investigation there, in Alaska, and other questions also that good Americans don't care about, those who are in the real part of America), so it's not that I don't get it, it's just that I wish that when and if the time comes for her to rear her head again there wouldn't be that detritus floating around, so handy for hanging blame and providing misdirection.
I also wish that all that disgusting sexism against Palin hadn't been sort of validated by the fact that she didn't win. I wish more people (me included) had called out the sexism for what it was. This outcome just makes it easier for people to use the same attacks on other, more qualified women.
That was brilliant. I haven't laughed that hard in ages. It was like something out of a Far Side cartoon, especially when the guy in the background kept looking at the camera whilst the she was wittering on. She is truly, truly an imbecile.
and not just the voguing for the camera, but theatrically nodding his head in solemn affirmation at some point she makes (too lazy to go look again)... the whole thing has got to be an outtake from the next Cohen brothers film. Doesn't it?
I didn't understand mudpuppie's comment until I watched the video. She could have redeemed it by saying "and I see they're almost done with my bird! Gotta go!"
The more we point and laugh, the more power she gets, ironically.
Taz, you expressed my feelings about Palin, and the treatment of Palin, perfectly. There's a Letterman clip with Katie Couric, where he sleazily says he was aroused by Palin. Really offended me, though I dislike Palin a lot. I like Dave, but it was really offensive.
I dislike her politics, her attitude, her voting record. Her gender is immaterial.
Yes, it does seem like something fro a Cohen brothers film.
Perfect. That is exactly what it reminds me of!
Still, I think it's unfair to point to this video as evidence of her stupidity or monstrousness or whatever. It would also be quite hypocritical of me, a person who enjoys eating dead turkeys and is often completely oblivious to things going on around him.
This just shows how incredibly green she is, even after her weeks of handling by her campaign. You don't have to be on TV too very many times before you learn to swivel around and check your backdrop before they start filming. IT's just something you need to do, like making sure your fly isn't open. The guy behind her seems to be grinning at her from time to time, kind of wondering if she's okay with the turkey action in the shot.
