I don't get it. The color pallet on Obama's site is particularly original either, neither is having blog posts and videos.

Consultants justify their work by saying theirs is the best website, based on all sorts of quantifiable, scientific (or at least, science-style) research. If the conclusions of that research are correct, consultants will have remarkably similar answers to standard design questions. As time goes on, all political websites will look more and more alike, since electorates are reducible to demographic types that can be exploited by close attention to preferably involuntary psychological cues. It stands to reason that any politician would want to emulate the web style of the latest, greatest, presumably most expensive, definitely most high-tech campaign ever.
