This is the next print to be hung in my baby's bedroom. We are making a nerd, here. Hopefully.
Which color did you pick? I like the turquoise one. Pink microscopes? Who ever heard of such a thing?! Besides which, I firmly believe that decorating girls' rooms in pink and boys' rooms in blue is a completely heinous idea.

But I love that print. Indeed, I want one for myself.

Ah, yes, I should have said. The blue one indeed. She has enough pink in her life already.

I wonder if you can get a stuffed microscope. . .a nice cuddly one. . .or at least miCROBES.

Yo Gaspode. As a fellow scientist I totally approve! A stuffed microscope would be cool too.

That artist is super awesome.

You could get both colors to introduce the concept of sexual dimorphism.

i like the blue is better or a green print. green is is the hue we develop the most ability to see the widest range. bear in mind babies can't see pastels well until their rods develop better.

ahhh, art school... how i love your unscientific ways.

Excellent taste...

I love those so much, I'm wishing I had a baby right now! In fact, I may buy one and put it in the closet for the next several years, until it's needed...

K-Rad! Gaspode, I *swamp* you with whuffles for solving my holiday gift paralysis re: the wee niece & (impending unknown).

Really? Really? That's awesome!

Green is my favorite color(s). I can see some evolutionary-type justification for seeing subtle shades of green...telling plants apart can be of life-or-death importance...but I never heard this factoid before. Anywhere I can read more?

And 'pode -- I hope you raise a great girl geek. The world needs an army of 'em.

Hee. I love that pic, gomichild.

I didn't know that either. Cool.

That site is great, gaspode. And green is my fave color too! And eatdonuts, art school nerds are important too! And. . .too!

The basic idea is that the entire spectrum of radiation contains energy, but our eyes only see in one area of it. That band of sensitivity fades out at the bottom, to infrared, and at the top, to ultra violet. The optical sensitivity in the center is strongest, and that's green.

Green is the "loudest" color in terms of pure signal strength. But physiologically, neurologically, and psychologically everything centers on red. Probably because seeing blood has immediate life-or-death importance.

Warning : then they grow up to attach this on their doors - pardon the crummy camera-photo Lost Mah Bucket I just grabbed a shot for this thread.

I vote shades of green all the way baby, I'm going green-nuts in my daughters room (good thing she likes it too). I bloody love her room.

Tip: I got my daughter a microscope (for kids) for her birthday = not exiting toy (yet?). But then, nerdy puzzles are. If you find nice wooden puzzles with geeky patterns, hoard them!

Oh yay! Yay for all the little nerd babies! That print is fantastic and so is that onesie. I call my kids "nerdlings" all the time.

A few weeks ago my daughter came home upset because her friend told her she was a dork.

Me: "Well, you are a dork."
Her: "What is a dork?"
Me: "Kind of like a nerd, only goofier."
Her: "Oh. Well I'm definitely a nerd, and I AM pretty goofy. So, I guess he's right, then."
