This time of year a good glass of doppelbock is especially fine, is it not? My word.
Indeed. Also good: Porters.

Booze me.

My local grocery? No doppelbock. My good bar? One doppelbock (flying dog), at $20/bottle. Granted, it's a limited-edition release, and I'll probably cave in and try it, but still... mostly I just like saying doppelbock.

There is a German restaurant not too-too far away that (often) has Salvator on tap, and there's a store in town that has it bottled, as well as usually carrying Optimator and (although you don't want one very often) Samichlaus. They're just quintessentially autumnal to me.

(But I have never found "the one" porter that really made me a fan.)

Thanks for reminding me; I stand corrected. No idea why I didn't think of the Haus - they do in fact have a few. I need to get out more...

I've got a Yuengling Porter next to my laptop right now. Not the greatest porter in the world but not bad and it's cheap and I like supporting local brands.

ah man Porter's are the best. Try Deschutes Black Butte Porter, Anchor Porter or Sierra Nevada Porter (in descending order of greatness)
