11 October 2008

I'm locked out. [More:]my housemate went to the grocery store, while I was sitting on the front porch. She locked the door out of habit, which I didn't realize until I got up to go in.

It's gotten me thinking about worst case scenarios.

Looking around, I'm OK as far as food goes. The garden has a few tomatoes, numerous peppers, chard, and a few young lettuce leaves. I have access to water, and also a soda I accidentally left on the porch.

It's getting cold. Housemate left a bathroom rug out to dry last week, so that could supplement my shorts and t-shirt. I also have a plastic tarp, and I could burrow down into the wood chip mulch for warmth. It's kind of fluffy, so I expect it would be insulating. Actually, I wonder how hot my compost pile is?

I hope she's back within an hour and 15 minutes, though, or my battery will die.
And this is why I keep my cell phone and keys with me even when I mow the lawn.....

The laptop is nice and warm, at least. I've broken out the soda.

Oh noes.... I got locked out once - had to dash around the back of the apartment and hope no one saw me taking a leak.... the positive thing is that short of a crowbar to the front door it's actually very difficult to break in.

Heat from the compost is very clever. you might want to start digging a poo-hole now cause when you have to go is not a good time to remember you need a hole. You can use the tarp for privacy.

You may want to set a snare for small mammals. Sqwerl on a stick might be stringy but it will be filling.

Are you on a corner? You might try to get hired out by local Johns for motel room cash.

I say order a pizza online. If you've got a local place with internet ordering, they might even be able to deliver a six-pack while they're at it. And if you've got beer and pizza and a laptop, well, all you need is a hammock, right?

That was quick! She's home.

And she brought me mint-filled oreos.

This thread had such potential. :-p

If only every sudden calamity ended with mint filled oreos.

I actually really enjoyed it. It wasn't scary, because there were a few ways I could get out of it. The neighbors were all out, I had my computer, I knew she was coming back...

Thinking about the what ifs rocked. I felt a bit like I was 8 and playing pretend again!

What I would give for mint-filled oreos right now. Oh, maybe I need to go to the store later.

And since they stopped using hydrogenated oil, you no longer have a film of scum on the roof of your mouth from the filling. YUM!

You totally have to build a couch fort now!

(And hide in there and eat your cookies).

I love the what ifs when you know it's just a matter of time before you're scarfing down some mint Oreos! Really.

Can a couch fort be the next meet-up?

I have nothing to contribute to this discussion, other than I'm glad Stew's no longer locked out and did not have to resort to prostitution, squirrel-eating, or pooping outdoors. Plus, mint Oreos.

And that there's a local band called "Couch Fort".

"Who's playing tonight?"

"Couch Fort!"

"Awesome!"

I have no idea if they are any good, but they get major points for having an excellent band name.

I really want to make a couch fort now, but I'm too lazy. The clean up!

Some friends and I made a gigantic couch fort a few years ago and lived in it for 24 hours. We also took mushrooms and told ghost stories. It was incredibly fun. It had many rooms and spanned half an apartment.

loiseau, the mental image of this totally makes my week. :D

Suddenly, I'm swamped with nostalgia.

Sometimes I miss my old life.
