Love! Yippee! My best friends just sent me photos of their wedding! They’ve been together 29 years and just now had the opportunity to get married when they went on a trip to California. [More:]

Now, I’ve always thought of them as married, as they are the most beautiful married couple I know - just very in synch w/ each other and so aware of all that’s in the world around them. I’ll not post a link to their photos, but though I’d share one of their comments: “I feel married and equal to everyone else for the first time in my life ……I can honestly say I felt a weight lifted off our shoulders when we said I do.”

Boo! on the system that has kept them from such a basic ability – to not be legitimately with the person you love and have others acknowledge it is unthinkable, but, alas - real. I cannot believe how stifling that must feel, and am so delighted to share in their joy! Bring out the disco ball and loud music - *Everybody do the happy dance!*

*does the happy dance*

How awesome for them, mightshould... congrats!

(And 29 years, wow... in a few months the partner and I will reach 19 years together. I hope we won't have to wait another decade before we can make it official.)

PoliticsFilter: The Yes on Prop 8 crew is gathering steam rather rapidly, fellow Californians, so don't rest on those lazy leftist laurels thinking our right to marry is going to stick around for long. No shit. Get to the polls in November and make it count.

I have mixed feelings. While part of me is totally pro-fairness, I'm also hoping that if Prop 8 passes, it turns out to be so fundamentally flawed that the U.S. Supreme Court invalidates EVERY marriage in California, saving me from further dissolution problems with my still-not-official Ex. I know it's a pipe dream, but...

It's beautiful and wonderful and right.

And, yeah, i kinda wish everyone had to have civil unions if they are "the same" damn thing, then leave the other aspects of marriage to the individuals.
It should all either be easier or harder.
Maybe tribal leaders and ship captains should still be able to do it, but if you want some of less basically necessary legal smeagol, you go yet a civil union.
i dunno.
Separate
your church and state.
