02 October 2008

I would like to thank Senator Harry Reid and his staff. My disability case was approved last November after 4 years of waiting for the glacial process to run its course. I had been waiting ever since then for the lump sum back payment but calls to Social Security went nowhere (this is normal). I submitted a written complaint to the Senator's Las Vegas office on Tuesday and 36 hours later the entire sum was direct deposited to my bank account. I cannot express how impressed I am at this moment.
Damn, that IS impressive... congrats, dude! I know that's bound to be a huge, huge relief.

Congrats, but what a messed up system when you have to spend such enourmous energy fighting for what's yours and have to resort to Congressional intervention for results! Just makes me so angry that folks have to go through this when they've enough on their plates as is... *end rant*

CONGRATS!!!! Now, go out and celebrate!

Like you wouldn't believe, BP.

Of course, the bulk of it goes to my disability insurance company because they were covering for the payments all along. However, once I was approved last November, my insurance stopped paying me monthly and instead applied those monthly payments (up to 80% of my previous salary) toward paying back that lump sum. It's complicated I know.

Anyway, the remainder will be substantial enough to move me into the next phase of my life, once I decide just what that will be.

Well, let's put it this way, mightshould. Few disabled people have the strength, health or what have you to weather the process on their own. Luckily, my insurance was good enough that they also paid the lawyer.

The greatest celebration for me will be paying off my exwife to move to Dallas, far away from anywhere I or my son may choose to go.

Ooh! Facilitating her move to Dallas—that's some Machiavellian-level cold revenge shit right there! /raised in Ft. Worth

Good job gettin' paid, Ardiril.

Congressional intervention (or, realistically, that of their staff) is a marvel to behold. Really, any time the Feds seem to screw up, calling your Representative or a Senator (whoever has the best reputation for casework) should be the very first thing you do.

Agreed, ROU Xenophobe. I mean, that *is* what they're there for.

I'm happy for you, Ardiril... Way to persevere. Now, don't go bettin' it all on black. ; )
