I fear that this will get even uglier. . . . [More:](Fun Fact: Oregon had one of the more recent KKK chapters of any state in the Union. . .)
Ugh. But at least the school president seems to be handling it in a good way:
"We absolutely cannot hate those around us and say we love God," he said. "It is not possible. Yesterday was not a good example of what it means to follow Jesus."

White supremacist anti-Obama leaflets distributed in New Jersey town

The closer we get to the election, I think the more we will see this sort of thing.

If Obama wins the election, I expect things will really get crazy. A lot of gloves come off a lot of different fists, particularly those who were once friendly, once someone is president.

This is my prediction, and I really, really hope I'm wrong: if Obama is elected, he will be assassinated.

My dad is thinking the same thing, essexjan.

Atom Eyes, you are right. To his credit, the school president is saying good things about this.

Well, come on, it's crossed everybody's mind. Obama himself talked about discussing it with Michelle before agreeing to run; they know exactly what they're facing. But that's no reason to dwell on it. Every American president takes that risk. You don't have to be black to have the threat cross your mind; there are all varieties of crazy people with enough violence and hate. Reagan, Kennedy, McKinley, Lincoln - they were all white men, and it didn't protect them from nutters.

This stuff will only get as ugly as we let it. Stare it down - it's crap, always was.

I'm apprehensively curious what type of race-related response/portrayal an American president Obama will receive internationally as well. I feel like a lot of people are in for a surprise.

We'll live. Everyone who's a first anything has a tough road. Just today I was reading some of the stuff Susan B. Anthony got called in the media during her lifetime. Ouch! Glad it didn't stop her, though.

I don't know... there's a TON of people out there the KKK and their ilk would love to get rid of. And they're all walking around without even the benefit of one of the world's most highly trained staff of personal bodyguards.

Senator Obama has been called to a meeting with President Bush tomorrow. I fear for his safety then. (almost seriously)
