16 words: Jazz apples. From New Zealand. Very crisp and very sweet. Hard to find. But worth it.

Normally I won't buy fruit out of season, but I saw the Jazz apples at Fairway last spring and bought one. Yum!

I like Honeycrisps too, but they're not as juicy as Fujis.

Fujis are reliably delicious. Had a Gravenstein yesterday: very tart, possibly too tart.

ooh, hey! there's a Jazz on my desk, with a thankyou note! apparently Annoying Chemist Guy brought it to me in apology for the ginormous pile of patents crap he dumped on my desk yesterday.

Except for some mutant golden delicious on a tree I happen to know about, my favorite eating apples in recent times have been Cripss Pink.

lol Wolfdog! Nice Wikipedia link, I managed to lose myself down that rabbithole for about twenty minutes or so. Nice. And I really should be working.

Also: I want to express my undying love for Cameo apples. They're excruciatingly expensive and difficult to find except during peak season times, but oh, my are they wonderful! It's like eating an apple-pie-spiced-apple, or something. Even Wikipedia alludes to this with their description: "...firm and crisp with an aromatic flavor..." It's like they bred the cinnamon right into it or something.

Oh man, the first Honey Crisp apples of the season appeared last week. They are hands down the best eating apples ever. They have incredible crispy, juicy textures and that right balance of sweet with a bit of tart. Can you get these outside of WA State? I think they are a fairly new variety and they have only begun to ramp up production in the last couple of years.
