The people they pick for these things are just mind-blowing- what the heck has Bob Saget done to deserve such attention? And I say this as someone who loved Full House. Perhaps they have to settle for whoever agrees to take part in it. I could imagine plenty of people saying, you know what, no thanks.

That was pretty damn clever.

The Comedy Central roasts have been an interesting branch from the traditional Friars' Club or even Dean Martin roasts of yore. My left eyebrow was askew when I first heard it would be Saget, but seeing everyone's "sincere moments" (to quote Garlin's teleprompter) at the end of their sets made me think it was a pretty decent choice. Personally, I've never found him funny, and his recent HBO special was just awful, but clearly other comedians respect and love him. Besides, the guest of honor is usually the least important person in the room for determining the overall success of the event.

Norm's set was hilarious, as was to be expected. I also appreciated Greg Giraldi's set, though at this point a bad set from him at one of these might kill his career, and Cloris Leachman who, though she had a lot of support through some stale jokes at the beginning of her set, really brought it around in the send.

The most disappointing was the Shatner roast. I mean, you have the easiest target imaginable, he's sitting right there. Pick anything. The toupee. The phrasing. That movie he did all in Esperanto. He's William Shatner, the lowest of low-hanging comedic fodder fruit!

And instead, every other comedian chose to go for the exact same "Hey, didja know George 'Sulu' Takei is gay?!!" joke. Lame.

I'm watching Norm MacDonald right now and I'm not sure I get it!!?! Did he run his speech through a non-sequitur machine?

So wait, this limpdick is unfunny by choice? I thought it was congenital. I mean, I get what he's trying to do, but really. Also, there were no funny SNL people in the nineties.
