Is there anything I can do to stop these cold symptoms There's a big pharmacy next door and I have some cash. I need to go out canvassing for two hours and have had this cold for three days!
Mostly the feverishness I want to get rid of.. tired and shivering won't work.

You might try 10 aspirin and a bottle of rum. You'll still have the cold, but you won't care.

Do you really want to share your germs with all those people you'd be canvassing?

Other than that, get some saline nose spray and spray the heck outta your sinuses-that does kill germs and help with congestion.

But I do think you might want to wait on the canvassing.

Nthing that...when I'm feverish, all I want is to wrap up in a blanket and sleep.

Happy belated!

The real kind of sudafed (behind the counter) or dayquil will dry you up and make you zippy. But you'll have to sign that non-meth thing.

sudafed it is!

Yeah definitely sudafed, but it might give you a buzz. And you only need one - I didnt take it for ages and then did without reading the instructions, automatically took two and I was high as a kite, pupils like dinner plates.

You don't have to sign anything in the UK yet, rmless2. They only restricted purchase to one box of 12 at a time like, last week (previously 2 boxes of 24 - er, I should probably explain at this point that my boyfriend gets bad hay fever). Crack is still the down-and-out drug of choice here.

Slow down. Relax. Lie on the couch and listen to music. Let the sickness run its course.

Let someone else take care of the two hours of canvassing.

Ah, interesting! Next time I travel to the UK I am bringing back the good stuff and not getting on a watch list.

Crack and smack, I mean. And cheap grog.

But jason and the others are right, Grace. Se if you can take it easy, and I find this soup to be quite good at staving off colds (but only before they've really hit):

Chop lots of garlic, shallots/scallions/spring onions, ginger and as much chili as you can stand. Bring to the boil in a pot of water with a stock/bouillon cube for flavour if you want, simmer for 10mins then cool and drink as much as you can stand, have a rest then drink some more until it's gone.

I hope you're feeling better soon!

On preview: Heh, rmless2 - I, er, know of people who send it from here to family in Australia. If you have a genuine need for it the restrictions are so frustrating.

BtGoG, I love DayQuil. It clears the fog and the stuffiness and allows you to function. If you have it, or an equivalent, go for it. A non-drowsy cold remedy is probably your best bet.

Sometimes we can't stay in because we have a common cold. We live in communes. We are going to spread germs. It's a fact of life.

I am in love with Advil Cold & Sinus (from behind the counter). It's my favorite cold/drip/sinus cure-all. I should be a spokesperson for that product.

Wait, wait, it's only two hours of canvassing? How much time per house/flat/hovel? If it's only a few minutes, and if you can get in one or two big noseblows in between houses, you probably won't be noticeably ill to anyone.

There are other people in Scotland who want independence. The canvassing can be postponed for a few days. Get some rest pronto.
