Inspired by ufez's admission here, what indefensible tracks (or artists) might be found lurking on your mp3 player or in your CD collection? Tracks you continue to like despite all common sense and derision from your peers.

I agree with gaspode re: S&G.

damn, I have that same Cranberries track. As well as some Justin Timberlake, but I'll go ahead and blame urbanwhaleshark for that. even tho it rapidly became my trump card for "shitty music wars" with the neighbours in my old apartment building.

Hellbient I'll see your Kiss and raise you the Kiss vs. The Scar mashup I have, a disco-techno-remix of "I Was Made For Loving You".

we won't even go into the Erasure/George Michael/Madonna/et. al. collection of early 90's gay danceclub anthems I have roaming around in my hard drives.

Oh God, Erasure and George Michael have long been loves of mine. Why as a teenager did I always fall for the guys who weren't in to me? I also had a crush on the singer from Frankie Goes to Hollywood. *sigh*
I don't have anything that I am ashamed of on my ipod now. My taste is impeccable.

Pretty much everything, I think. Although nobody ever complains when I play music at card games etc, everyone cringes when they see what I carry around with me, so I guess I'm everyone else's guilty pleasures.

Oh yeah, I meant to remove the BOC. Originally it was because of the "more cowbell" thing. Make no mistake, I love that song.

Concerning most of those I should probably be more embarrassed than I am, but I don't apologize for my taste the way I used to. I feel a bit more grown-up because of this.

BOTW is a pretty cheesy S&G song, but that last verse is a work of production genius.

BOTW is the one S and G song I always skip, but I love almost all of their other songs.

There's nothing wrong with the Crossroads soundtrack! That's some righteous blues, right there.

My embarassments are that I *love* George Michael's 'Too Funky', and nothing gets me boogying like Deee-lite's 'Groove is in the Heart' (dig it!).

Yesterday when I was playing Mariah Carey, my kid asks very dryly, "Do we have to listen to this?" Haha.

Last night as I was walking into the grocery store my kid asks how many songs I know. I say I know hundreds. He says, "sing ten," I sing, I wanna hold your hand, I wanna hold your hand...Don't talk to strangers, baby don't you talk... I hear the secrets that you keep when you're talking in your sleep... He then says, "OK. That's enough."

There a re so many things mentioned upthread that I don't get the shame of liking. The Styx, Steve Miller, Pete Townshend, BOC, Alice Cooper, and Nancy Sinatra cuts are all praise worthy in my book. I guess one man's badge of honor is another's cross to bear.

I've never fully bought into the guilty pleasure concept, since some of my favorite artists are unforgivable in many circles. But there a few things that I might cringe a bit of they came up on my MP3 player around the cool kids. The only thing I can think of I'm actually a little ashamed of having on the MP3 player are three songs by Britney Spears (My Perogative, I'm A Slave For You, and Baby One More Time). And t first I was a bit uncomfortable that Mrs Slack got me like songs by both Justin Timberlake and Kelly Clarkson, but I'm past that now. A good song's a good song.
