Throw them under the bus.

At the end of the day, I take off my pants and eat Doritos, and I'll stand behind any politician who can say the same. But I'll put my pants back on first.

I'll run your pants up the flagpole and see who salutes.

I'll put your Doritos in a pipe and smoke 'em.

When all is said and done, voters look at the substance of the candidates and their policies, not who gives the best soundbite. Not that we in the media provide anything more substantial than soundbites to consider.

I have some business sayings that I'm sick of:

"Lets go after the low-hanging fruit"
"Onboarding"
"Raising the bar"

etc. ad nauseum with lots of nausea.

I noticed that the phrase "at the end of the day" was far more prevalent in England than in the U.S. when I went to the U.K. several years back. In one business meeting, they were discussing how long some testing would be. One of the U.K. engineers said, "At the end of the day, I think you'll be very happy with the testing."

I took him literally. I replied, "You mean the testing will be done today?" I wasn't trying to be cheeky; I really thought he meant that. I just wasn't used to hearing the phrase used as figure of speech.
