Nightmare on Worknight Street So my partner is watching Nightmare on Elm Street.
→[More:]Although I first saw it on video a few years after the theatrical release, it still scared the fuck out of me.
I've been peaking-in on his video experience, and I've gotta say two things: 1) the music is pretty 80's-synth awesome, and 2) the combination of soft-porn-like scenes (even ones where the male is the sole sex object, something that really surprises me) with horrible supernatural violence is just so profoundly unhealthy . . . but I recall that's the time the sex=death metaphor was growing, when we didn't know much about HIV/AIDS other than that it was transmitted primarily sexually, so maybe it served a cathartic function . . . ? I dunno, though, I think I would have come out of the closet sooner if it hadn't been for films like this.
Anyhow, the other thing I notice is that it's a fairly well-executed film, despite its incredibly kitschy flaws. Some of the imagery and situations are really, really effective.
BTW, my partner is watching this in preparation of the
Midnight Mass with Peaches Christ showing, which I've refused to go to. I don't wanna see this on anything bigger than my monitor, even when introduced by a fabulous punk-horror-drag show.
