Dude, You Stole My Article They say everyone's a critic, but in this case, the critic is everyone. Today in Slate, Jody Rosen uncovers what just might be "in purely statistical terms ... the greatest plagiarism scandal in the annals of American journalism". Via Stolen from Zoilus.
I see what you did there.

I'm not sure this rises to greatness in any sense of the word.

The Bulletin sounds like a dead-tree version of 80% of the blogosphere. Even without plagiarism, few alt-weeklies rise to the level of journalism. I am surprised that Rosen, in all her own journalistic "integrity", published an article on something equivalent to mp3 piracy. Must have been a slow day.

This is crazy. I'm always intrigued by plagiarizers. I don't know why they dig themselves into such deep holes.

The dead-tree archives of local journalism abound with similar examples. It's just that before Google, nobody could look it up.

(In my 1982-ish journalism class taught by the editor of our city's newspaper, he complained that the weeklies around the county "steal our stuff all the time", but it wasn't worth complaining about.)

This seems very common with local free papers.

Oh, come on, people, the presentation of this post was clever as hell, in context. Give grouse some lurve, this at least qualifies as mildly amusing.

Thanks, middleclasstool.

It IS clever. Sorry not to have pointed that out grouse.

I meant the plagiarism, not the post. That kind of dinky throw away paper is not too far from what the neighborhood kids might do to promote their lemonade stand.
