The Seller is Insane - A Semi Shouting Sobbing Thread She verbally agreed to the price and everything but she won't sign the contract.[More:]I'm freaking out and not only that, but if she doesn't get it to me, like, today, then there's a very, very good chance that I'm going to lose my funding. This whole deal hinges on me being able to get a $10,000 matching grant from the feds as a first time homebuyer urban area poor single mother thing (I don't know what it is, really, I just know it exists and I need it) but that money - there's a finite pool of it - is rapidly running out. So rapidly that it might well be gone unless it's reserved for me today. I can't even start the reserving process without a signed contract. AND THE FUCKING INSANE PSYCHO BITCH SELLER IS SUDDENLY GETTING COLD FEET AND WANTS AN EARLIER CLOSING WHICH I CAN'T DO BECAUSE OF THE FEDERAL FUNDS THING AND SHE'S IN FLORIDA AND APPARENTLY NOT RESPONDING TO HER AGENT'S ENTREATIES AND I JUST WANT TO CRY; I'VE MOVED HEAVEN AND EARTH THE LAST TWO WEEKS GETTING THIS ALL SET UP AND NOW I'M DEVASTATED AND ALL BECAUSE SOME RAVING LUNATIC IN FLORIDA WON'T JUST SIGN THE FUCKING PAPERWORK. THAT SHE OKAYED A WEEK AGO. A FUCKING WEEK AGO. AND THERE ARE NO OTHER OFFERS AND THE HOUSE HAS BEEN ON THE MARKET SINCE FEBRUARY AND SHE HAS NOTHING WHATSOEVER TO GAIN BY STALLING LIKE THIS BUT I HAVE EVERYTHING TO LOSE.
Ach, that's terrible. Take a walk or get a long drink of water; if you have to talk to this person on the phone make sure you're looking out the window or at something that makes you smile. Keep thinking positive. Hope it works out (crossing fingers).

Oh noes! I am sorry. If this woman has an ounce of sense she'll realise that she needs to sell that house to you.

Maybe the seller will calm down, actually having a chance to sell a house successfully. Aren't many often squirrelly in the interim?

That's just bizarre, MGL. Try not to panic yet, though... like eth says, people do a lot of crazy stuff during real estate dealings. Her agent will do everything in his/her power to make sure you get to buy this house!

But damn, this is stressful.

Aw holy hell, MGL, this sucks. Keep us updated.

You gotta get a place for the Warren.
Maybe we shake 'em down, send in some thick necked boys and girls. Maybe they shake loose a better place, or some teeth.

ugh. But it's true, this crap happens in most real estate transactions. Deep breaths; I hope it works out.

Fingers crossed for you mgl.

mgl, this is insane. She's in bankruptcy court and is giving a buyer the runaround? How long has it been on the market? People can't be this choosy if they have a buyer. How bizarre.

Good luck, mgl. Hopefully she'll come to her senses.

mgl, I know this might not help your specific panic right now, but my mom just did exactly what you are doing (got a low-income home loan w/federal grant). It took some haggling on the part of the realtors, but it got done and she's moving this week, actually.

Which is good, because the 135-year-old farmhouse I grew up in? It's literally falling down around her ears.

Best of luck. And from what I can tell, the govt. folks who are helping you with this? They are really, really good at kicking people's asses to get them to sign stuff. Amazingly so, actually.

Honey, listen to me.

Stuff like this happens all the freaking time in real estate.

I want you to take a deep breath and know that IF this deal falls thru (not saying it will, but IF) that is a signal that this is NOT the house for you.

If this is the house for you, it WILL fall into place.

(and take heart...remember, my hubby is in the business, and more to the point, in the business in North Carolina. I can ask him, and I bet he will know of other plans you and your realtor can use. There is ALWAYS something.)

Just piping in with a "fingers-crossed" for you, MGL. Crazy people aren't always very fun to deal with, so best of luck.

Also sending good thoughts and seconding what bunnyfire said. It's maddening to get this far and then have a wrench thrown in. GOOD LUCK and please let us know how it turns out. Wishing you all the best ....

keep the faith, mgl, even though it's insanely stressful. bunnyfire's right. breathe, and keep us posted.

(((((((((MGL))))))))))))and lots of whuffles, too. I'm keeping my fingers crossed also. Otherwise I'll hop a flight to Florida and pound a crazy houseowner in to the ground.

Wishing you (had) luck today, mgl.

(As bunnyfire sez, it is so true that real estate is basically this wrench-attracting gearing mechanism. Just be glad you're not the poor sap at the end of a chain of people held up by a transaction six or eight buyers down the line.)

No news, y'all. I sent her a pathetic letter all about how much I love the house and I'm all poor and this is my only chance and oh my children and shit like that. Let's hope it works and then let's hope there's some federal money left. Sigh. The big problem is that my needs/wants are incredibly specific (mostly in regard to neighborhood and yard size) and there's just NOTHING out there. Thanks for the good wishes and oh gods I hope this works. Argh.

Good luck, mgl... I sympathize with your housing woes. I know how great it would be to own your own place. All the best.
