What guilty habit have you picked up recently?→[More:]
I dunno if I've picked it up recently, but I've become aware of it recently. At work, I am guilty of taking a bite of something, and then going to the printer or bathroom or whatever while chewing. That's kind of gross.
Playing the same song over and over and over for hours at a time while I'm working on my computer. For example, I saw the trailer for Watchmen before The Dark Knight on Thursday, and have been playing "The End Is The Beginning Is The End" by The Smashing Pumpkins pretty much solidly since then.
I had firmly adopted the happy habit of writing proper notes promptly after an event. I have a little box with a selection of handsome notecards, good pens, an address book, and a book of stamps, all stored together to make it as effortless as possible to sit down and express my gratitude for a gift, a visit, a dinner party.
But I've slacked off lately, and the good habit has eroded. I'm trying to get back to it, and indeed, moments ago, I put in the post a thank-you note to a family member who had me for a visit last weekend.
Yes, last weekend. And the hostess is my perfectly mannered sister-out-law, so I really wish I'd done it sooner. Oh, well --- I'm just pleased to have thanked her for her kindness. I vow to do better expressing my gratitude.
Oh, hadjiboy, smoking is a viciously tenacious habit once it's established. I don't know if people who've never become addicted understand how very difficult it is to quit.
Cheese (over)eating. I tried laying off cheese a few months ago, but since I moved to NYC I haven't been able to keep myself from eating every cheese sample I see. A cube here, a cube there. By the end of the day my poor, yet very happy, belly's stuffed with 20 cubes of cheese.
Reading political blogs. I have something like twenty of them in google reader and hit update sort of obsessively. I'm not sure why I do that, things don't really change much within a day or twos span, I need to cut down.
