Lifts There's someone trapped in the lift here... I can hear them buzzing for help - there are people there helping them, I'm not ignoring them to their peril or anything. But, freaky!
It's only me. I thought the lifts in my shoes would make me look taller, but they broke down and now I can't move.

that happened a lot when I was living in the dorms. It sucks, but if the elevator repair folks are there they'll be out soon.

It's ok - the guy helping her is telling her all sorts of comforting things like "you've started coughing, you must have used up all your oxygen. The Carbon Dioxide is going to make you feel weak now."

no... he seriously is...

WTF? The elevator is that airtight?

I got stuck once in the elevator in my NYC apartment building and the super got on the intercom and said, "have you tried pressing 'DOOR OPEN'?" I said, "Now don't you think that already occurred to me??????"

It took about half an hour for him to get the thing going again. Fortunately I'm not the claustrophobic type.

"you've started coughing, you must have used up all your oxygen. The Carbon Dioxide is going to make you feel weak now."

Nice. This would be a good follow-up: "I notice your voice is a little shaky—you must be nervous. Did you know that elevators can sense human fear? They feed on it. Oh, and by the way: the building's on fire."

I got stuck in the glass elevator on the outside of the Peachtree Plaza in Atlanta one time with my boyfriend and three Arab sheikhs in full regalia. We all stood there silently for about 15 minutes and then the elevator started moving again. The rotating bar at the top of the hotel, where we were headed, turned out to be kind of lame and expensive and we left soon. However, I've never forgotten it and it has always seemed to me that it would have been a great beginning for a really tawdry pr0n film. Also? Hellevator would be a wonderful horror movie title.
