Something else, please. It's been Jesse Helms non-stop for DAYS here. Giant newspaper headlines, permanently plastered on wral.com (which will broadcast the service live today at 2pm if you're interested), on the radio etc etc etc. The man's gone. He was polarizing. Can we please, PLEASE move on already? Like into the 21st century, perhaps? *bashes head against wall* /end vent

Well, the one thing about him that I found amazing: You always knew his position on any topic. Right or wrong, he would make sure it was clear!

(not that I agree with him, but it would be nice to have a present day politician say something that clearly...)

Hopefully this is the you/we have to hear of him. Hopefully there'll be no Helms nostalgia down the road - this is one relic we would all be better forgetting about.

He died at about 1:15AM on July 4th. Any competent cardiologist (and many incompetent ones) could've kept his heart beating for hours (even days?) before and held back on an assessment on brain death. Probably by his request. It was most likely his final Big Lie.

Somehow I managed to tune the whole thing out, despite being within spitting distance of the actual funeral when it happened. (1.57 miles, to be exact.)
