My day today was filled with worry. I used to live in the area that's on fire. Most of my friends still do.

Wow, Wolf, that's a pretty scary pic. Pretty quiet 4th for me, no pictures. Spent the day cleaning and packing for vacation except for a few hours when we went and had some food and beers at the neighborhood block party up the street.

My day doesn't have a photo, but if it did, it would be of lightening, heavy rain, and downed trees and powerlines.

911 was *busy* when I called to report a downed tree on a major highway, and then when the busy signal went away they never answered. At all. Nor have they called me back. It's a good thing I wasn't being murdered.

(Around here they say to call 911 whenever you need to get the police, or make reports, or whatever)

Not a very big part of my day, but as I live about a ten minute walk from Lake Washington I headed on down for the fireworks. I'm not a big "ra ra America" (the fourth is just another drinking holiday as far as I'm concerned) type but a free show is a free show. Especially as it had been threatening to rain all day and it never materialized and in fact cleared up. There was ragged clouds with this sublime just barely crescent moon dodging amongst them. Still just light (I love living so far north) at 10pm when I made it to the lake. From the little park just outside the Kirkland downtown I was able to watch the Kirkland Fireworks (from Jaunita Bay) the Carillion Pt. Fireworks, and across the lake in Seattle I could see the Lake Union and the Elliot Bay(?) fireworks. Not bad. Anyway I didn't drag my camera along (though I did bring my hip flask of Jamesons) but I took a few cameraphone pics. Really these smaller ones look better then the full sized, but they are linked on the click.
