He rented Rambo. I rented... [More:]The Piano Teacher. After reading some of the reviews I'm not so sure I want to watch. I'm kinda scared.

A quote from a critic:

It is depressing, ruthlessly pained and depraved, the movie equivalent of staring into an open wound.

Oh, goody!
I haven't seen the movie, but I have read the book. It's one of those books that you kind of admire without liking very much. IMO.

It seems that it's going to be that kind of movie. It won a few fancy awards but people booed the movie. It might be reserved for the artiest of art movie types, which I am not, but I'll watch anyway. I got sucked in my that darn Roger Ebert. I generally agree with him. I saw that he liked it and grabbed it.

Oh, fuckinay. Piano Teacher is on my list of Top Ten Disturbing horror films! No kidding. Right up there with The Audition. Seriously. Please tell me what you think!

Oog. Sometimes I wish I could unwatch Piano Teacher.

Oh, but, ya know.... Teacher still has to be better than an unGodly remake of Rambo. Go Lori!

I couldn't finish watching it. I can barely remember why now. I don't remember being overly sicked out, but I remember thinking like, "Oh great, now this?" If it was depraved and depressing, my brain remembers it as a pile of depraved and depressing, just loading it on.

Oh, I remember it. I definately watched it all the way through. I think I liked it. It was to my depraved eyes, over the top, and yes, campy/horror movie like, but not in a way that made me scared.

I really need to see Audition.

I just looked up the Audition on IMDB, and it returned ten different titles. Which one is it? The plot synopsis that I liked the best concerned cows who were auditioning to be the country's mad cow. Is that cute, or is that sick and twisted?

I'm pretty sure it's this one.

Msali, here's the thumbnail review I wrote of Audition:

Takashi Miike’s infamous 1999 shocker centers on a simple deception: a widower in search of a new wife holds a phony casting call, hoping to find his perfect woman among the candidates. From the beginning, Audition has the hallmarks of a delicately balanced romantic thriller, with some fillips: a tongue-in-cheek montage of the auditions, some compositional commentaries on the ironies of the plot, and a very few spine-numbing jolts for spice. But the last few sequences veer suddenly into vicious, visceral territory, mocking the measured urbanity of the previous hour. It’s ghastly. Is “ghastly” a bad thing? Only you can decide that.

Having seen a few other Miike films, where he wrings genuinely scary scenes out of (sometimes) not much material, I expected it to be filled with jumps and jolts, but it wasn't... exactly. I didn't find the events of the film "scary" so much as repugnant. I still can't decide whether it was any good.

For a moment there, I confused Rambo with Son of Rambow. Oops.
