Share a joy! Post something you're happy about. [More:]

I'll start: Mrs. Doohickie got the standardized test results back from her students.... the passing rate of her kids: 100%! This included several "lost cause" seniors who had already failed their exit-levels repeatedly. They all passed social studies/history.
I don't appear to be dead yet. Although I should really wait for the lab work.

I had dinner at the delicious salad place with Stynxno and kkokkodalk, who have found an apartment in Astoria, yahoo!

I am finally commuting on my new road bike, tricked out with rack and panniers, and it feels good. Better still was when another roadie with panniers pulled up in front of me and we had a rainy little heads-down micro-paceline for about a mile. Low-key exhilarating.

My house is very clean.

I volunteered this morning at the school and two little girls told me I was pretty. One little boy had a big smile on his face and said, "I like you, Will's mom." Two other girls said, "I love it when you are here." Kids are so sweet.

I had a good day with my husband. My sister and nephew came over after school and the fun continued.

My dog is getting so big. She sits in my lap and I pat her like I would pat a cat -- long, smooth strokes. Today I was purring while I was patting her to make my sister laugh. Goldie liked the purring.

I am emptying my freezer and *gasp* I has steak! 2 big T-bone steaks, in fact. So I am having steak for dinner tonight and steak for dinner tomorrow! Steaky steak steak. Plus I bought romaine hearts & blue cheese dressing today. Could dinner be any more perfect?

A good friend of mine who's been battling the same cancer that downed my father last year got the results of his CT scan and it looks like he's in the clear.

I am also thankful in a different way for the PP thread going on in MetaTalk, 'cause it's a slow night at work and I can use the entertainment.

That's great news, jtron!

Lori- you sound just like Mrs. Doohickie about then years ago. She volunteered a lot at the elementary school in our neighborhood.

I forgot to mention a different joy: My son, a high school junior, passed all of his exit-level TAKS tests!

Today, I helped out by walking my friends dog Riley. He was so happy to see me he pranced in circles. Later, when we walked near the water, he sprang into it like he found the source of pure joy. He could hardlly contain himself, running and leaving p-mail and jumping up to give me kisses. It was a good day.

Yay! Penguins win! (I'm totally a fair weather sports fan, I'll rally behind any local team that's winning).

ACK. Red Wings lost. (I'm on the other side of that divide, octo.) Although I said all along, Game 3 would be the one that Detroit drops. Maybe Game 4 too. I've been predicting Detroit in 6.

Cindy Crosby is going to be the Dan Marino of the NHL: awesome career, never wins the Big One. And that, that is my joy.

I'M GETTING MARRIED IN 6 WEEKS!

I was totally "Meh" about this until last weekend. Now I'm full of joy. I can't wait to see my family again, to see mudddude's family again, and to hang out with our friends.

That is awesome, muddgirl!

Yay, so many joyful things!

Also, too, I got my chef's knife sharpened by the local knife maker, as I'll be taking it and the steel with me when I go down south. He did a beautiful job. Really--it almost brought tears to my eyes to watch such a skilled craftsman at work. The edge has a mirror finish to it now, and can cut paper. He even softened the corners on the non-cutting edge so it's easier on the hands. It is a thing of beauty and a joy to behold.

Yay muddgirl! Best to you and Muddude!

I'm happy to have started a friendly, if barbed, discussion about musical tastes. I like hearing other folks talk about music, and I like talking about it. Everyone is free to tell me that my tastes stink -- I've been hearing that for years! :)

I'm happy that my mom fully recognized me and told me she loved me today. Usually she's not quite sure I'm who I say I am, and she kinda plays along. But today, I knew she knew she knew I knew she knew who I was. That is a totally defensible (if poorly phrased) and parsable (parsible? someone get me a grammarian) English sentence. Verb out, man.

Doohickie -- Detroit in six is right on the money. I so wish this GREAT FREAKIN' MATCH-UP ON PAPER would result in some stellar hockey. Missed games 1 & 2 (no Versus), and enjoyed game 3 -- Crosby FTW. But go Penguins, anyway. Even if they were whining about the Wings playing solid defense. /no dog in this fight

My brother is coming across country to visit this weekend. I usually see him only once a year, so it's always great when that time comes. We're going hiking in the Pisgah National Forest.

I'm drinking wine, yum.

My older (foster) kid is moving out July 15, yay!

My animals are awesome.

(I'd say something positive about my younger (foster) kid, but she's in a black funk and not speaking to me.)

Even though I am not getting a job as quickly as I'd hoped, it means that I get to play tour guide for Oregon for a solid week for one of my best friends and show her why I needed to be back here.

And then a week later my sister and her two kids will come for three weeks, and I get to do the same and re-visit our childhood and make sure her kids grow up thinking of Oregon as their second home.

What are you getting, deborah? We're looking at a Fusion. My wife is a Ford nut, but I was skeptical. I took one for a test drive, and all I can say is what a sweet, smooth ride!

The worrisome spot on my little cat's nose has disappeared! She's still acting/looking weird, but I'm not sure if we're projecting. I think maybe we are.

My time in Riga ends next Wednesday! Home for the summer to sunny California for my brother's graduation, then a few weddings, some traveling around the States, and off to a new job in Poland in September!

I’ve been in a really down funk recently, missing my hubby in the most devastating way. But, out of the blue I finally got the nerve to tackle the messed up taxes from that year – haven’t finished it, but at least I’m started on the sorting it out and trying to recreate all the old documentation and figure out the mistakes.

It brings up bad times, but I’m trying to be proud that I am doing something; plus, I’m eating my way through a chocolate cake as an incentive! Yum, dark chocolate!

I had my first post on metafilter that went really well! wee!

I went Swing Dancing, and had a blast!

I went to dumplings at THE dumpling place, and it was good!

Work has been better the last couple of days!

I'm moving out and away from my chauvenistic flatmate!

So much joy and happiness today!

Oooooh- I have a REALLY great recipe for flourless mandarin cake which is AMAZING too!

I am (finally) happy about the work situation I am in. My old job, now that I look back on it, was such a dysfunctional place to be. I mean, I knew that before, but I now realize the depths of dysfunction that place had plumbed. It was an easy place to work, there were very few expectations that I had to live up to, and performance just wasn't something I was worried about, since there was about a 0% chance of getting a raise no matter what I did. And especially in the last few months, I was so bored due to lack of meaningful work.

Anyway, I was lucky enough to get hired in at a small but apparently aggressive IT consulting company, and the atmosphere here is just completely different. It's organized, but in a very loose, flexible manner, everyone (except me) knows their stuff and is competent, I know pretty much what I need to do to get into the swing of things, and there's very little danger of not having enough work to fill the day and keep me interested. When I wake up in the morning, I no longer dread getting out of bed.

Of course, the negative side of this is that I won't be able to keep up with the happenings on MeCha nearly as much, but I guess you can't have everything.

Wow this whole thread is making me happy!

Puppy is sleeping and leggy and gangly!

I figured out how to warehouse cabinets prior to installation today! One more piece of the puzzle solved! And, I can order direct from the manuf. now instead of going through crazy egomaniac boy!

Morrison's (supermarket) now sells Tex/Mex food, so I have beef burritos for dinner. Yay!

This is lovely to read.

It's been a bad couple of weeks, and I've been pointedly observing the sweetest little moments in life:
- the tiny bird that hopped beside me halfway down the street, hopping hopping hopping through fallen petals.
- the hollering scramble of kids in the playground as I walked by, tumbling and screaming and jumping.
- the canopy of flowering trees that spreads over the sidewalks of my neighborhood in spring.
- two almond biscotti, not too sweet, with a big warm cappuccino.
- fresh bread.
- a clutch of blood-red ranunculus spreading their lavish blooms, happy to greet me when I get home.

It's a Nissan Versa Hatchback, Doohickie. We were looking at a slightly used 2008 but because of interest rates, a new non-used was cheaper. It'll be the first new car I've ever owned.

Ooh... I would have seriously considered one of those a couple years ago if they were available, but they were just coming out and the hatch wasn't out yet. Have fun with the car!
