Paul Weller turns 50: releases new album, buries the hatchet with Bowie.
[More:]
Hats off to the perennial Boy About Town (aka The Changingman), infamous haircuts and all! In honor of the day, here's a small selection of favorite tracks and videos.

The Jam:
Eton Rifles (1979 song that's been the subject of a bit of a political dust-up in the UK lately)
That's Entertainment (1981)
Video: Going Underground (live, c. 1980)

The Style Council:
Speak Like A Child (1983)
The famously goofy video for My Ever Changing Moods (1984)

Solo:
Hung Up (1993)
Come On/Let's Go (2005; brief NSFW language)
Videos: Wild Wood (live, c. 1994); performing the Jam's Town Called Malice (at the 2006 Brit Awards).
Oh, fantastic! Thanks, scody!

Wow, they sure broke the bank on that "My Ever-Changing Moods" video. That bottle of champagne alone must have run them at least $40.

My brother was just asking me about the Jam the other day. I called Paul Weller "Peter Weller," and he almost flipped out at the thought that one person did RoboCop, Buckaroo Bonzai, anthropology documentaries, and late 1970s British pub rock. So, my apologies to you for overselling Paul Weller.

Dang. Why would he be dissin' Bowie. For cashing in or hair cut or whateverrrr, that's fucking disingenuous...

Jam reminds me of the Diodes [Tired of Waking up Tired]. Same era. Heh, who's copying whom [ok, the Diodes are...] and what is original anyways...
While we're on the topic, the song titled 'Hung Up'¿ Hello, Madonna did it a million times better. From his album 'Wild Wood'¿ Hmmmm, Gun Club's Jeffrey Lee Pierce did a WildWeed album [Love and Desperation], ages ago...just sayin'./ :)

Gad, I love music. Thanks for the reminder though. Da Jam.

You've seen Bowie in tights, right?

That's not a hatchet. That's a chainsaw.

I just wish he'd do another Robocop movie.

So far he's been pretty quiet about any possible Monkees Reunion. . .
