Adam's Rib may be my new favorite movie. How'd I miss this one until now? Didn't think "Kate and Spence" could top Woman of the Year, but boy oh boy. Great movie.
For some reason, Philadelphia Story left me cold. I don't like any of the characters much, including Kate's, and that "ah, she was yar" line drives me nuts.
I'm a huge fan of 30s/40s cinema, and somehow overlooked this one until now. Spencer Tracy is great in just about everything he does, but when he's playing opposite Kate, you can absolutely feel the realness of their mutual attraction. Awesome stuff.
I adore The Philadelphia Story, but have you seen Desk Set? Hepburn as librarian, Tracy as computer guy whose machine will change everything? Sizzling.
I have terribly mixed feelings about The Philadelphia Story, which my partner aptly described as "an anti-feminist spanking machine."
But Adam's Rib freaking rocks, makes me laugh and makes me angry in all the right places, and Judy Holiday's supporting role tops it all off. Boy oh boy, do I love her. (Miko, if you liked Holiday as the defendant, check out Born Yesterday.)
