I wondered how that'd go too. We were there, but didn't go into the official area because the line was waaaaaaay too long.
Instead, we sat on the pier by all the boats, because we could see and hear everything much better than if we had gone into the official area, *and* we had the additional bonus of being able to dangle our feet in the water.
I was curious if half the crowd would leave after the Decemberists stopped play, but it was interesting. During the concert, I got the feeling that people were enjoying the music, but kind of in the way you enjoy it when you are waiting for something else.
And after the concert, there didn't seem to be any sort of migration out of there. With each speaker, there were more and more people in the crowd, both by us and along the waterfront. Many more boats came closer too as it got closer to the time for Obama.
When Obama came out and spoke, the crowd was definitely much, much larger than it was for the Decemberists. It was pretty clear to me that people came to see Obama, and the Decemberists were a nice bonus.
It was very cool to hear Obama speak live. It was a really great day.
